Colonoscopy is an easy exam to do without sedation, The sedation increases the risk of perforation; I doubt that anyone has EVER been perforated if they had an unsedated colonoscopy. Many GI docs "insist" on sedation because it makes the exam easier for THEM.....read askapatient.com for comments about the amnesia drug versed, this is what most GI docs use. you will never want this drug. I just had a colonoscopy unsedated, it was easy. you just have to find a good doc..
