I have seen so many parents force their dreams on their children. It is so sad.
Children are individuals in their own right, they have their own dreams.
Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful message! How blessed you are to know this...and follow your heart to allow your children to follow theirs. I was one of the many whose parents advised "Plan B". All it served to do was make me doubt my abilities as an artist. Sadly, it took me decades to erase this fear...and follow my heart to write as I was intended. I don't blame them; they wanted me to be "safe". But it was a mighty price to pay for their fear. Bravo to YOU for knowing the difference!
I took the safe route and went to college for my BBA (Business Administration and Finance). After working in the field for 8 yrs, I was bored stiff and couldn't take another minute of it. Where am I now? I moved clear across the country, took a huge pay cut to work at an animal sanctuary that I love, while I pursue my education in the field that I've always loved - counseling others. Just starting school in Sept and have a 3 yr program plus interships to go, but at least I'm finally doing it
Bravo! My father discouraged my dreams and at 58, I still don't know what I want to be. Even worse, I don't know what I am capable of because of the fear of failure that was instilled in me. Every parent needs to read this article and learn to encourage their children's dreams.
