I too live in Nevada City, California and was surprised to see this story by Diana, whom I have met in the past. It's a beautiful true tear jerking story that I'm glad I stumbled across. I support our military today with care packages and letters and wonder about the orphans and children they come across so far away from home. Thank you Diana.

Diane told me the short-short version of this beautifull story, when we met some time ago in Southern France. It's the kind of stories that makes you feel as if hands reaching out from one generation to an other transforme life into a wothfull continuing stoy. Thanks Diana !

What a serendipity to find Diane's article "Finding Gilbert" in the June Reader's Digest. Diane is my husband's cousin, but it was still a surprise to flip the page and see a story about our family. We had heard part of the story of Uncle Don and Gilbert, but it was great to read all the details. The family photos were also delightful. This article was a fitting tribute to D-Day and World War II veterans. We're proud to have a talented journalist like Diane in our family.
