Regarding 10., I've read elsewhere that the mechanism is the following: wearing socks makes feet warmer and this induces a better blood flow. A better blood flow makes the blood from the upper part of the body, which is warmer than the blood from the lower part of the body, flow better to this lower part of the body and so, the upper part of the body cools off and as it is said in "Chill Before Bed", scientists believe that cooling off is good for sleeping.
That is really good advice about the mattress. I can say that the firmer the mattress the better. I think its kept my bones real strong over the years.
