In your October 2009 article "SSN SOS" I totally agree but, how do you deal with merchants that insist on obtaining your SSN or tell you they'll have to terminate the transaction. Is there a reasonable response other than simply saying, "Sorry, I don't give out my SSN?" - Dave
Thanks for your article on "Rainy Day Coverage." You said that high-deductible health coverage is not for the chronically ill, but there's a point you've not considered. The HSA allows a person to spend $6000 a year pre-tax when he might not otherwise itemize or have enough medical expenses to deduct on schedule A. This could benefit some chronically ill people.

I just turned 64. Jan. 1 the company I retired from is dropping my ppo insurance. The only plan they are offering has a big deductable and some other companies I have checked with suggest catistrophic coverage with deductables as high as $5000 or more. Since I will need this insurance for less than a year, is there any other choices I can look into?
