My kids know that Mommy and Daddy don't talk on their phones while in the car. Its a good family habit to start.

OUR STATE HAS A POLICY THAT DRIVERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN ONE PASSENGER IN THE CAR. THIS HAS KEPT A LOT OF DEATHS DOWN. THANKS, JOE

We have "ringers off" policy while we are in the car. That way we aren't tempted to answer the phone. This goes for the driver and the passenger. Backseat passengers can be on their phones--in fact, with teens--I almost prefer it! My wife and I don't drive and talk on the phone we're trying to set an example. Its also the job of the passenger to pick the music. Driver must stay on the road. NO EATING IN THE CAR!!

Headsets are a must for chatty teens. I told my kids that if they simply have to talk on the phone then they are to use their headsets. We've also come up with a listing of times that they can be on the phone, er, headset while driving---consists of quick phone calls from my husband and myself that last 30 seconds or emergency calls. Texting while driving is out of the question and if they do it they are grounded.
