Best Apps for Stargazing

by Alison Caporimo

As a native New Yorker, I never get to see the stars (and no, I don’t mean Sarah Jessica Parker or Tyra Banks…I see them all the time). I’m talking the real, blazing spheres of fire that have inspired artists, writers and, well, Moby to create modern masterpieces.

Which is why I was thrilled to stumble upon Weber State Department of Physics’ neat round-up of the best star-charting iPhone apps. Learn the history of constellations, plus how to identify a planet and locate the stars that are most visible in your sky. One app that appealed to me in particular was iAstronomica, which only tracks brighter stars that you might see from light-polluted cities (cough, cough: New York). If that doesn’t work, I’ll just have to bring the constellations inside my apartment.
