Brad Pitt’s New Ad Smells Funny
by Barbara O’Dair
With several million YouTube hits, this whopping viral video is the latest commercial in the Chanel No. 5 campaign. The high-end perfumiers are counting on Brad’s shaggy-maned star power to instantly convert readers into viewers, then viewers into customers. If this does occur, however, it probably won’t be due to the leading man’s sultry yet sensitive seductions. Rather, it will be his comic turn as a daffy Don Quixote.
“It’s not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on”…and on and on, like this, for two more minutes. Whatever happened to the days when our favorite stars made tacky commercials that would only air in, say, Japan or Italy, thereby preserving the actor’s authenticity among their American audiences?
We only hope that Brad shills for Chanel to fund his international charities, which he so admirably supports. Meanwhile, entertain yourselves with some of the more amusing parodies. As performed by former teen idol Leif Garrett, here, from Natalie Tran, a popular YouTuber in Australia, and on Conan O’Brien’s show here.
