You grow up living with your parents, but what if, when they get older and need care, they end up living with you? A Virginia-based company, N2Care, created the MedCottage (nicknamed “granny pod”) for just that scenario.

MedCottage is a mobile medical home that can be placed on a caregiver’s property to make looking out for elders easier and homier. For families who shy away from nursing homes, or aging parents who refuse to enter assisted living facilities, this temporary abode could be the answer.

Each home is 12 by 24 feet and has a small kitchen, a bedroom, additional space for visitors, a handicapped accessible bathroom, and “remote monitoring” so you don’t take on the role of hovering parent.

“Using smart robotic features, it can monitor vital signs, filter the air for contaminants … Sensors alert caregivers to problems, and medication reminders are provided via computers,” states the website.
