Celebrating Julia Child

Julia Child has been an inspiration to many—myself included—and has influenced the way we cook, eat, and enjoy life. Today, culinary greats and admirers of Julia Child alike are reminiscing and honoring her on what would have been her 100th birthday. Here, the tributes worth reading or watching:

List: “12 Julia Child Facts on Her 100th Birthday”
PBS, the station on which her famous cooking show aired, has complied 12 little-known facts about this larger-than-life personality. I won’t give much away, but did you know that she had a rose named after her?!

Essay: “Memories of a Friend, Sidekick and Foil”
When chef Jacques Pepin first met Julia Child, they cooked, talked, and the rest is culinary history. Pepin offers a touching account of their friendship through the years in this article from the New York Times.

Video: “Judith on Julia”
Legendary Knopf editor Judith Jones is the woman behind all of Julia Child’s cookbooks. In this video by Wine Spectator, Judith talks about Mastering the Art of French Cooking, how Julia’s boeuf bourguignon had her nearly crying with pleasure, and the importance of Julia’s visceral, gutsy language.

Bonus: “The Julia Child Remix”
Check out this fun and funky video from PBS that features bits of her kitchen wisdom—and that legendary voice—set to an auto-tuned beat.
