Delicious Reads: The Best Cookbooks of 2012

Year-end lists make great gift guides, and I’m partial to the cookbook roundups that feature the year’s most delicious reads. So if you’re still looking for a few thoughtful presents for family and friends (or yourself), peruse these lists from top food websites. Then all you’ll need to do is hit the bookstore (or website)!

For the best of the best: Epicurious; TheKitchn
These two must-read lists feature a wide range of titles—with very little overlap—to choose from. My top picks: Hero Food by Seamus Mullen and Canal House Cooks Every Day by Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer.

For that little something extra: BuzzFeed
This list pairs each book with a clever tool or ingredient that the recipient can use with it. My top picks: Thanksgiving: How to Cook it Well by Sam Sifton with a potato masher and The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook by Deb Perelman with a mini whisk.

For non-cookbook food books: Serious Eats
From chef autobiographies to beautiful food writing, these books will make satisfying reads for any food-lover on your list. My top picks: Yes, Chef by Marcus Samuelsson and My Berlin Kitchen by Luisa Weiss.
