Hey, Mr. President: Have I Got a Burger For You

By Perri O. Blumberg from original

Now, there’s no beef here, Mr. President, because clearly you know your way around a patty (ahem, obamaeatingburgers.tumblr.com),

but when you recently made a surprise stop for burgers in northern Ohio, you and your crew should have kept going towards Cleveland to my favorite Ohio joint, The Beer Engine.

Without even glancing at the menu, you’ll ask for a Picnic Basket Burger. It’s a half-pound cheddar cheese burger with lettuce and tomato, plus an Angus beef hot dog on a fresh pretzel bun; both are drenched with the house potato salad and baked beans. And there’s a deep-fried pickle, plus golden, crispy homemade potato chips. Oh, and the whole plate is topped off with a juicy wedge of watermelon. Did I mention I didn’t eat for three days afterwards?

If you aren’t getting back to the Cleve any time soon, how about you get Sam Kass to make you some of the sides? Recipes courtesy Michael Frohlich, general manager, who was nice enough to share with me. Then again, I’m probably not going to need eight quarts of each, but with all your friends and staff it’d probably go quickly.
