The Only Fiscal Cliff Guide You’ll Need This Holiday Season

The Only Fiscal Cliff Guide You'll Need This Holiday Season

The news media is abuzz with talk of the impending fiscal cliff—a series of tax hikes and spending cuts the U.S. government is furiously trying to avoid —and although there is an abundance of coverage on the coming crisis, following along can be a daunting task for those of us unfamiliar with the minutiae of fiscal policy.

Thankfully, Quartz, Atlantic Media’s digital business arm,  has one of the best (and most creative) guides to the fiscal cliff I’ve seen. Their project, Has the U.S. Gone Off the Fiscal Cliff?, features an image updated daily with a fiscal cliff countdown as well as must-read links and tweets. What makes the site great, aside from its well-chosen curated coverage and lighthearted attention to fellow “cliffs,” is that it’s entirely clickable, from the quote of the day to the stock indexes.

The page auto-refreshes every five minutes with an updated image, sometimes with new helpful links and other times you’ll spot a Quartz employee at work. As we inch closer to the end of 2012, towards the edge of the fiscal cliff (which the Wall Street Journal says is actually more of a slope, though the point remains the same) and even more stalled negotiations in Washington, we anticipate Quartz’s guide becoming even more valuable.
