Wanted: Chance to Go Ape

by Perri O. Blumberg

Go Ape Courses!

For a city girl whose idea of a hardcore outdoor trip is navigating a steep lawn without falling on her face, I can’t stop thinking about Go Ape! The affordable, eco-friendly treetop adventures—currently in Maryland, Virginia and Indiana with plans for expansion—offer zip lines, Tarzan swings, and in-the-air obstacle courses for daredevils and scaredy-cats alike. Their mission is “Live life adventurously,” with the goals of getting people outdoors and active.

Go Ape!

Go Ape! boasts having hosted 2.9 million users with no serious accidents (safer than crossing Broadway after the matinees let out!). Since the courses are all located in parks, you can also take advantage of bike trails, volleyball courts, and grassy picnics—they can help with catering, too. My native Manhattan’s overpriced indoor rock climbing has nothing on that, I thought as I sat at my computer late one Tuesday evening.  So I booked tickets to go bananas in August.  Perhaps I’ll see you there with your tribe?
