Jeremiah McDonald Goes Silent

If you’re a fan of The Artist or Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, check out Jeremiah McDonald’s homage to the silent era. The Portland, Maine, filmmaker insinuates himself into three pre-sound movie classics in fascinating and fun fashion. One finds him in a montage of Buster Keaton movies acting alongside or in place of the silent comic star. In another, he’s onstage tapping away as a French hoofer. And in the third, he starts off asleep, only to wake up in a George Melies film. Melies was the French silent movie director played by Ben Kinglsey in Hugo.

McDonald definitely is entranced with the past. He came to our attention with his YouTube hit where he manages to interview his 12-year-old self by interweaving an old video of himself with a new one.

According to web.orange.co.uk, McDonald wasn’t sure if he’d have much to say to his 50-year-old self. “I’m pretty sure that me in 24 years would hate the current me. Maybe that’s how we should all strive to live our live. Strive to make sure future you won’t hate current you and vice versa.”

Note, there is an errant curse, so be warned before showing the kiddies. But watch it anyway for a funny and oddly touching experience.
