What is Cross-Cultural Solutions and a volunteer vacation?
Cross-Cultural Solutions provides a Home-Base for all of its volunteers. Here, all of your daily needs are taken care of, including lodging, meals, and transportation. The CCS Home-Base is designed to help you enjoy all the country has to offer without the frustrations or time spent on day-to-day logistics.
The winner of this sweepstakes will get the rare opportunity to work side by side with local people in Peru, Guatemala, or Costa Rica. You’ll experience another culture like never before, through Cross-Cultural Solutions' Insight Abroad program.
The one-week trip for two will consist of project-based volunteer work. Volunteers will support local initiatives to provide education or social services to the community; these include orphanages and childcare centers, schools, homes for the elderly, centers for people with disabilities, and other community organizations. The projects are all designed with the goal of accomplishing them within just one week.
Prior to departure, the winner will speak with one of Cross-Cultural Solutions' U.S.-based program managers. Program managers are alumni of Cross-Cultural Solutions themselves, and are able to respond to specific questions about the community and the program because they’ve been there. They can inform you about the local culture and day-to-day life within the community, as well as give you a sense of what you might expect as an international volunteer.
Once you arrive, you'll be immersed deep in the heart of a community that warmly welcomes you. The Cross-Cultural Solutions' country-based staff is always from the region in which its programs operate, and therefore have a vast knowledge of the local community and its needs.
You'll be able to participate in learning activities that include an in-depth orientation, insight into cultural norms, language assistance, discussions with guest speakers from a variety of fields relevant to community development, and special events such as holiday festivals and tours of local attractions. Free time is available some afternoons and every evening.
