Stephanie: Hi! My name is Stephanie and I'm from Los Angeles, California. My husband has difficulty with his sense of smell. I'm just curious as, if there is some sort of allergies that could be contributing to this. David Lang: Stephanie, individuals who have untreated allergy that is hay fever what we called allergic rhinitis may have such an extreme degree of nasal congestion that they have a reduced sense of smell or even a loss in their sense of smell. This is also commonly seen in patients with chronic sinus infection. So the answer is yes, but your husband should see a physician to undergo more diagnostic evaluation to be certain that he doesn't have a sinus infection or there is an another reason for him to have a loss or absence of his sense of smell.
