Dieu Donné Montoucet, 81, earns a living as an auto mechanic. He's also worked as a farmer, carpenter and school bus driver. But his life's passion is musical triangles. For four decades, the Lafayette, Louisiana, Renaissance man (he played accordion in a Cajun band) has handcrafted triangles, for everyone from professional musicians to folks who just want a supper-call bell. His dwindling supply of old hay rakes -- the rustier, the better -- is the secret to their sound. Montoucet shapes each triangle by heating the metal red-hot, tempering it and applying 250 hammer licks.
