Patrolling the Information Highway
The Internet is one of the best educational tools children can have. Where else can they check in on the pandas with the National Zoo's Panda Cam, spend an hour translating the No. 1 song in France into English, and then whiz over to Alaska to learn about glaciers?
The Internet makes our world smaller and more accessible by placing information about absolutely everything literally at our fingertips. But the Internet doesn't judge the quality or appropriateness of that information; as a parent, that's your job.Unfortunately, the cyber world is full of criminals, bullies, pornography, hate, violence, and gossip. That's why keeping your kids safe online has to be a priority in your household. If you don't understand the Internet or are intimidated by computers and technology, it's time to learn how to use all of it. You can protect your children on the information highway only if you know how to navigate it as well.
