"A wonderful place to live"

Suffern has been my home town for 57 years, and not too much has changed during that time. People come and go, but the friends that come back to visit their families always say, “I just loved living in Suffern.” Nestled in a valley with beautiful mountain views, when the sun sets on this town we feel protected and safe in our community thanks to our wonderful police and fire departments. We join together for community events as well, recently mourning our losses at our 2018 Memorial Day service.

Stories About Suffern

In May 2015 a loveable, humble woman was struck by a vehicle and did not see the next day. It was a sorrowful day for those who knew her best, but it was also when I saw acts of kindness from supportive and caring people in the Suffern. The news traveled fast from person to person about our friend Claire, and her roommate and friend Rosemary was in shock. It was a sensitive time to have to make all the arrangements with money she didn’t have. Because of Claire’s humbleness, love, and passionate interest when she spoke to people, she made friends all over Suffern. The people of Suffern stepped up to help Rosemary arrange for Claire’s funeral. Donations came in all amounts. Local VFW, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, St. Vincent DePaul of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Church, Men’s and Women’s Cornerstone, Our Lady’s Guild, Vincent Crotty Foundation, Scarr Funeral Home, Suffern Police, parishioners, friends, and so many more.
