chuyuss/ShutterstockFew things are more frustrating than a delayed or canceled flight—seriously, this shows just how insane flight delays can be. Fortunately, a recent study published by Get Going Insurance determined which airlines are the least (and most) reliable—so we don’t have to learn the hard way.
The study was based on airlines’ number of flights and how many of them were delayed or canceled. The study also includes how long the average delay is per airline along with customer and safety ratings. According to the study, the least reliable airline in the world is Air China, which is one of the major airlines of China. About 7.10 percent of Air China’s flights are canceled, a whopping 72.13 percent are delayed, and the average delay is 42.1 minutes long. Their safety rating is 7/7 and their customer rating, unsurprisingly, is 4/10. The second least reliable airline in the world is AirAsia, which is the largest airline in Malaysia, with 5.28 percent of their flights canceled, 43 percent of them delayed, and an average delay lasting 53.6 minutes. Their safety rating is 7/7 and their customer rating is 5/10. (Sometimes flights get delayed for the strangest reasons—these 12 flights that had some bizarre setbacks.)
We’re sure you’re wondering then what the most reliable airline in the world is: GoJet Airlines, which is headquartered in Missouri. Only 0.22 percent of their flights are canceled, 5.74 percent are delayed, and the average delay is 33 minutes long. Their safety rating is 7/7 and their customer rating is 8/10. The runner-up to the world’s most reliable airline is All Nippon Airways (ANA), which is the largest airline in Japan. ANA ranks with only 0.17 percent of their flights canceled, 9.21 percent of them delayed, and an average delay being 33.7 minutes long. Their safety and customer ratings are the same as GoJet Airlines. (If you really want to play it safe, this is the best time of day to fly to avoid delays.)
