3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Rd., Jarrettsville, Maryland
Atop a 190-foot cliff overlooking the rolling hills of Deer Creek valley looms an enormous thronelike rock formation known as the King and Queen Seat—so named, it is said, for the ceremonial meetings held here by the Susquehannock Native Americans.
Trails of varying length and steepness lead up the cliff. The park is also home to Kilgore Falls, Maryland’s second highest free-falling waterfall.
Delightful picnic sites are set along the banks of Deer Creek, a mountain stream that winds among steep-sided hills clad with mixed evergreens and hardwoods. Bring your own kayak or tube.
Open year-round except major winter holidays. Picnic areas open Mar. – Oct. Admission charged.
