Want to sleep better at night? Try meditating during the day. So say researchers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, who found that insomniacs who learned Kriya yoga—a form of meditation that helps focus and calm the mind—slept more soundly and woke less often after two months than those who didn’t get the training. Another recent study showed about 50 percent less tossing and turning when people used a technique called mindfulness meditation along with cognitive behavioral therapy (a kind of talk therapy). The research suggests there may be a drug-free way to tackle chronic sleep woes.
