This Stunning Italian Town Wants to Pay You to Move There

Don’t miss the opportunity of a lifetime.

You now have the best excuse ever to indulge your travel bug. Candela, a small Italian town on the east coast of the Puglia region, is paying people to move there.

Yes, you read that right! According to Candela’s mayor, Nicola Gatta, the city will give cash incentives to singles ($945), couples ($1,418), and families (up to $2,363) who relocate to the village. There are only three requirements to receive the cash: You must become a resident, rent a house, and have a job with a salary of at least 7,500 euros—about $8,800—per year. It almost sounds too good to be true. (By the way, Denmark is recruiting intelligent foreigners to live there, too.)

Candela was once a bustling metropolis known as “Little Naples” with a population of 8,000. Now, however, its population size is only 2,700—hence the need for new residents. “I work each day with passion and commitment to bring Candela back to its ancient splendor,” Gatta told CNN.

A bit of extra cash is certainly enticing, but that’s not the only perk to relocating. The picturesque city offers gorgeous white houses with balcony views, food fairs, flower and art festivals, and very little crime. What’s not to love? Plus, once you hop across the pond, you’ll also want to add the most beautiful travel destinations from around the world to your bucket list.

“It’s a quiet and simple lifestyle. No crowds, easy to move around, no traffic nor smog,” photographer Francesco Delvecchio, who recently moved to Candela, told CNN. “We’re right at the crossroads of three gorgeous Italian regions: Campania, Basilicata, and Molise, with all the wonders each offers at hand.”

So far, six families have taken the opportunity to move, and five others have submitted their applications. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags; your next adventure awaits. (But first, you’ll want to brush up on the 12 Italian phrases everyone should know!)
