Coca-Cola fans, rejoice! If you’ve heard rumors that Costco food courts would soon begin serving Coca-Cola products instead of Pepsi, those rumors were, in fact, true. During the Costco Shareholders Meeting on Jan. 23, Costco president and CEO Ron Vachris confirmed the switch. “We will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola,” he said. Now, the change is finally underway!
With decades of debate about the difference between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, chances are, some Costco members will be thrilled about the change, while others … well, not so much.
Is this the first time Costco is serving Coca-Cola products?
Nope! As anyone who frequented the Costco food court prior to 2013 might remember, Costco’s fountain beverages were originally all Coca-Cola products. Then, in 2013, Costco switched from Coca-Cola to Pepsi, which the company did to maintain the price of the $1.50 hot dog combo—a price that has remained in place since 1985.
When will Coke be available in the food court?
If you’re excited about Costco’s switch from Pepsi back to Coke, you don’t have to wait much longer, if at all. Costco has already replaced Pepsi products with Coke at several locations, and Costco shoppers have taken to Reddit to share which stores have made the switch. Some of the stores where Coca-Cola has already been spotted include Lakewood, California; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Nashville, Tennessee; Burnsville, Minnesota; and Smokey Point, Washington, among others. Not every Costco location is serving up Coca-Cola products just yet, but the rollout is expected to be completed nationwide by the fall.
What Coke beverages will be available?
Now that Coca-Cola beverages are officially returning to Costco food courts, the next logical question is: which ones? Costco fans were quick to share their nearest locations’ offerings on Reddit, and so far it looks like you can expect to find classic Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Powerade and Minute Maid Lemonade on your next trip to the Costco food court.
Noticeably absent from the soda fountain lineup are Coca-Cola brand’s Dr. Pepper and Barq’s Root Beer, much to the disappointment of quite a few Costco shoppers on Reddit.
What about the $1.50 hot dog combo?
One lingering question remains: Now that Coca-Cola has resumed its rightful place in Costco’s food court, what will become of the beloved $1.50 hot dog combo? Luckily, this fan-favorite combo is safe, despite the Pepsi-to-Coke shift and ever-increasing inflation. With so much change in the world today, it’s comforting to know that Costco’s $1.50 hot dog combo is one thing we can all truly count on.
