Since super storm Sandy hit my hometown, I’ve donated to the Red Cross and dropped off food for those in shelters. But when I found out that a stellar group of award-winning musicians was coming together at Madison Square Garden for 12-12-12, a benefit concert for Sandy Relief, I immediately hopped on Ticketmaster to order my tickets. Not surprisingly, they were sold out in a New York Minute.
Though I was disappointed at first—who wants to miss a chance to see The Who, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Dave Grohl and others live?—that all changed when this article on AllAccess.com caught my eye.
As it turns out, Madison Square Garden, Clear Channel and The Weinstein Company will be broadcasting the event live in theaters throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for free, with complimentary refreshments for all who attend. All proceeds from the concert will go to benefit storm victims, and the concert itself will provide vital information on relief efforts. For people who are still recovering from the havoc of the storm, this star-studded lineup will, I hope, make for a much-needed night of fun and bring a smile to their faces. And hey, isn’t that what music is supposed to do?
