I’ve always considered myself “medium-maintenance” when it comes to my beauty routine. There are some products I simply won’t skimp on when it comes to quality—like prestige-brand foundation and high-end shampoo—which might make it seem as though I’m high-maintenance. But on the low-maintenance side of things, I’m honestly completely satisfied with my collection of affordable face serums and eyeshadows, and I often skip half the recommended steps in my daily skin care routine because I don’t have the energy at bedtime. See? It all equals out to medium-maintenance!

And for decades, I simply washed my face with a washcloth and whatever face wash I happened to have on hand. (I test a lot of products, so my drawers are full of options.) And then, one day I booked a facial at a fancy resort, and the aesthetician used a magical scrubbing device on me. The massaging sensation felt so incredible that after our session I had to ask what it was. She walked me over to the gift shop and pointed to a Foreo Luna Mini 2. Still in my post-spa-treatment haze, I purchased it without batting an eyelash at the price. And believe me, I’ve never gone back to that old washcloth again. Here’s my Foreo Luna Mini 2 review.

What is the Foreo Luna Mini 2?

This palm-sized sonic facial cleansing brush gently deep-cleans your face in just one minute. Made in Sweden, it’s clinically proven to remove up to 99.5 percent of dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and makeup residue. That means fewer pimples, and pores are better prepared for moisturizer and vitamin C serums (you’ll love this bestselling Vitamin C cleanser). Exfoliated skin feels softer too.

And it’s made from hypoallergenic silicone that’s 35 times more hygienic than nylon. If you ever used a nylon bristle cleansing brush, you’ll appreciate that the Foreo doesn’t require brush-head replacement.

The Foreo Luna Mini 2 delivers up to 8,000 pulsations per minute, which are directed through varying-sized, soft touchpoints placed around the device. With eight adjustable intensities, it’s safe for all skin types.

How we tested it

When you open your Foreo Luna Mini 2 package, it’s already charged up and ready to use. Sure, you could pore (pun intended!) over the online instructions (a QR code on the packaging takes you to them), but it’s one of those gadgets you really just need to play around with to understand.

I simply splashed water on my face, applied cleanser, and moved the Foreo Luna around in a circular motion. I spent about 15 seconds in each zone of my face (the pulsation briefly pauses to let you know when it’s time to move on from left cheek to right cheek, forehead, and chin.

For my cheeks, I used the thinner bristles, which are located on the front body of the device. For my T-zone, I chose the thicker touchpoints on the tip for precision cleansing. And I used the broader bristles found on the back of the device on my forehead and chin. Between the eight adjustable intensities and three types of bristles, I loved how easy it was to customize my experience (even mid-use).

My one-minute session flew by, and I was surprised when it signaled three quick pulses to let me know it was time to stop. I would have happily kept scrubbing away for several more minutes, because it just felt so satisfying. My skin felt squeaky clean afterward, but without any of the redness or irritation my sensitive skin was known for when I scrubbed too hard with the washcloth we’ll never speak of again.

I am glad I finally read the instructions, because that’s how I discovered that a single USB charge will allow you to use your Foreo Luna Mini 2 for up to five months. This blew my mind, as I was fully expecting it would need to be charged weekly.

While the lack of a replaceable brush head may initially make you wonder about its longevity, it’s important to note that the silicone design is far more hygienic than its nylon-based competitors—the key is to keep it clean. After each use, simply wash the surface with soap and water, rinse with clean water, and pat dry. And if you’d like to use a specially formulated product, much like what you’d use to clean makeup brushes, then consider adding Foreo’s Silicone Cleaning Spray to your online order.

What we liked about the Foreo Luna Mini 2:

  • Removes up to 99.5 percent of dirt and oil, dead skin cells, and makeup residue
  • No brush heads to replace or subscription to sign up for
  • Customized intensity and three different bristle types
  • Sessions take one minute
  • Only needs to be charged every five months/300 uses
  • Completely waterproof, so can be used in the tub or shower
  • Safe for all skin types
  • Comes in a handful of fun colors

What to consider about the Foreo Luna Mini 2:

  • Pricey, but there are no other parts to invest in
  • Cannot be used with cleansing oils or grainy or clay-based cleansers, because they will damage the silicone (so skip the scrubs and exfoliators when using this device)
  • It’s not connected to an app, like its newer cousin, the Luna Mini 3

What other reviews have to say

The Foreo Luna Mini 2 has more than 7,000 Amazon reviews and some pretty die-hard fans.

Relishes Reading says in her Foreo Luna Mini 2 review, “It’s my favorite part of my self-care routine. It makes my skin glass smooth, brighter, and even reduces wrinkles. I use it under my chin on my neck, and it’s like a mini refreshing massage. I love it!”

For roughly the price of one spa treatment, you could be using your Luna Mini 2 daily, and Sharon Santamaria agrees, “This product is amazing! I feel like I just left the spa when I use this.”

And TammyLeoral can’t get over how great her skin looks and feels. “Those little scrubbers do the job scrubbing off the surface dirt and oils and makeup of the day. The face feels refreshed, really scrubbed, and shines. I believe this is scrubbing away wrinkles, and toning the entire face. No proof, but the mirror is looking better all the time.”

Final verdict

The Foreo Luna Mini 2 fits in your palm, yet delivers a spa-quality face scrubbing that’s both gentle and effective in under a minute. What’s not to love? When you factor in that it’s a one-time investment (read: no replacement parts ever needed), holds a charge for 300 uses, and offers eight different settings to help customize your cleaning experience, it’s easy to see why more than 90 percent of Amazon users have rated it four stars or higher.

For my Foreo Luna Mini 2 review, I’d consider this a must-have in my skin care arsenal.
