How did this new report determine the most popular ice cream brands in every state?
To determine the most popular ice cream brands in every state, Coffeeness reviewed Google Trends data. It analyzed the 2025 search volume for 27 popular ice cream brands available in stores across all 50 states. (It did not take into account ice cream shops, grocery store brands or ice cream not available in stores.) From there, it put together a ranking of the 11 most-searched brands of ice cream, one of America’s most popular desserts.

Southern states tend to prefer Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, which is based in Ohio. There are a few strong regional outliers, like Hudsonville Ice Cream, preferred by Michiganders, likely because it’s made in Holland, Michigan. The same goes for Turkey Hill, which is preferred by those living in Pennsylvania and Delaware—the company churns ice cream out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Which ice cream brand was the most popular in the U.S.?
It might not come as a surprise, but the ice cream brand most popular in the U.S. is Ben & Jerry’s. It’s reached for more than any other brand in the freezer aisle, with 14 states crowning it the winner, although it’s got close competition in Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (13 states). The cherry on top is that Ben & Jerry’s has 87 flavors to choose from—including Chunky Monkey, Coffee Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz!, CherryGarcia and more—meaning that even if it isn’t your personal favorite brand, there’s definitely a flavor (or two) for everyone.
