Prince Harry May Have Just Broken Royal Protocol in a Big Way

Ever since the buzz about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship began, we have all waited with bated breath to see them in action. Finally, it’s happened: the two lovebirds made their first public appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto this week.

But unlike Prince William and Kate before them, this couple was a bit… shall we say, handsy? And it was absolutely adorable! While they watched the games, Prince Harry and Markle held hands, and the prince even kissed his girlfriend’s head.

Although their behavior wouldn’t raise eyebrows among the average spectator, it was a little odd for a member of the British royal family. Sure, handholding and PDA might be normal for any old relationship, but it’s not a frequent sight in royal romances. This is why Prince William and Kate never show PDA, for example. (But there is one surprising rule that the royal couple always breaks.)

However, while there are many royal etiquette rules that everyone in the royal family must follow, this isn’t one of them. It’s simply a matter of professionalism, experts say. Since Prince Harry and Markle’s appearance at the Invictus Games was pretty casual, they’re probably in the clear. The couple might need to lay off the PDA if they attend official events like royal tours, however.

Regardless of the “rule-breaking,” enthusiasts can’t help but speculate about a royal engagement in the near future. Fingers crossed! Check out the 12 other times the British royal family broke their own protocol.
