King Charles and Queen Camilla Just Released Their 2022 Christmas Card

Updated: Jan. 05, 2023

The couple wished recipients a "very Happy Christmas and New Year."

The reveal of the yearly Christmas card has been a royal family holiday tradition for more than a century. Since 1914, the highly-anticipated holiday card has featured an assortment of royal family members across the royal family tree. Monarchs like King George V and Queen Elizabeth II, and familiar faces like Prince William and Kate Middleton, have all graced the card.

Amongst new Christmas plans and changes since Queen Elizabeth’s passing, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla have dropped their first Christmas card since stepping into their new roles. And the card certainly sets a festive tone for the season!

What does the card look like?

An official picture of the card was shared on the royal family’s official instagram account. Set in front of a Christmas tree with lights, a stocking and bow, the card reads “wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year” in red print on the left side of the card.

On the right side of the card is a picture of the King and Queen Consort, taken by Samir Hussein. The royal couple was at the Braemar Highland Games in Scotland this past September when the photo was taken.

In the cheerful photo, the monarch and his wife wear colors fitting for the holiday season. Both Charles and Camilla incorporate green, red and gold within their outfits. Camilla looks especially merry for the holidays with a matching green coat and hat that stands out with red lining. Camilla flashes a grin while looking over at Charles, as the King smiles and watches over the games.

What other holiday plans does the royal family have this year?

The release of the Christmas card is just the beginning of the royal holiday festivities.

On Dec. 15, Kate Middleton will host the second annual Royal Carols: Together at Christmas concert. The event, which will take place at Westminster Abbey, will help kick off the holidays to “celebrate the joy that human connection can bring,” according to Buckingham Palace. Kate will be joined by her husband, Prince William, as well as the King and Queen Consort. The Princess has already appeared in a promo for the event, in which she dons a stunning red holiday dress.

Shortly after the concert, the royals will head to Sandringham for their annual Christmas plans. Both the concert and Christmas plans share the theme of honoring the Queen’s life and legacy.
