Successful hypnosis advocates say that it’s helped them to reshape their thoughts about food, a key factor for maintaining weight loss. Sound interesting? Here are a few things to consider.
Hypnosis is an altered state of mind.
Hypnosis works by temporarily altering your state of mind. Your hypnosis practitioner will say a series of words and phrases that allow your mind to relax, temporarily helping you forget the world around you. But Dr. David Katz, an ABC medical contributor and a professor at Yale University, warns that if you’re resistant to the idea of hypnosis, it may not work.
Make sure you’re well-researched.
Check out the practitioner’s credentials before you agree to give hypnosis a shot. Look for certifications, years of experience, and authentic success stories. You should also feel comfortable with the person you’ll be working with, and able to discuss deeply personal information about yourself and your relationship with food.
Don’t forget diet and exercise.
In order for hypnosis to be a success, it’s important to pair it with a diet and exercise regimen that provides complete nutrition for ongoing weight loss. If you’ve tried commercial diets without success, consider calling a nutritionist.
It’s not magic.
Research shows that losing weight slowly is the key to lasting success. Hypnosis will not instantly make 20 pounds vanish, but it can help you to make lifestyle changes that will result in weight loss. Hypnosis is a tool you can use in addition to other healthy strategies for leading a whole, healthy life.
