Disney Opened a New Star Wars Hotel—Here Are All the Details Fans Should Know

You might want to buckle up, because Disney World's brand-new Star Wars hotel is truly a wild ride!

To experience the finest hospitality in the galaxy, all you need is a credit card and a dream—a dream, that is, to check in to Disney’s Star Wars hotel, the Galactic Starcruiser, the ultimate vacation destination for Star Wars fans. Located in Orlando, Florida, near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the hotel opened in March 2022, and it’s light-years away from anything Disney has offered in the past. Full of Disney secrets and surprises, it’s truly the ultimate VIP Disney vacation for anyone who loves Star Wars.

Curious about what it’s like to check in? We’ve got the answers to all your questions, from the characters you’ll spy on your “ship” to the out-of-this-world Disney World food you’ll find only here. It’s safe to say that this is a Disney World celebration you’ll never forget, whether you’re going all-out on May the Fourth or any other day of the year.

What is there to do at the Star Wars hotel?

In short: A ton—and it’s nothing like you’ve ever experienced before. Instead of a regular hotel where you drop off your stuff, take a dip in the pool, and then leave to check out the park, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is an immersive experience that’s equal parts role-play, fantasy pageant, and all-inclusive resort. In fact, the hotel feels a lot like a self-contained cruise ship…but in outer space. And just as if you were traveling in outer space, there’s no pool, no outdoor areas to explore (with one stellar exception, which we’ll get to momentarily), and no windows where you can see daylight. Instead, the windows will reveal whichever galaxy you’re “flying” past.

All stays have to be booked for two nights. You’ll arrive at the same time as a new batch of “recruits.” That means you can’t just choose any day to arrive; it has to be one that fits with the two-night theming schedule. In addition to your Star Wars–themed room and entertainment, you’ll be able to nosh on food that can’t be found anywhere else at Disney (or anywhere else around the globe, for that matter).

There’s also a large array of story-building and interactive activities. You’ll be given missions and tasks to gain access to advancing story lines; the members of your party can choose their own paths or choose to work together, either for the Resistance or for the First Order. Have your own character name in mind? Tell the costumed cast members (aka Disney employees) when you arrive, and they’ll call you by your preferred moniker and introduce you that way around the ship. This is a role-playing adventure to the max.

During these three days of live theater, you’ll also have a chance to do lightsaber training, visit the bridge, learn how to activate weapons and shields, and play “holo-sabacc” in the ship’s super-cool Sublight Lounge. Plus, you’ll be able to interact with Star Wars characters and droids. Not into every aspect of this experience? You can simply kick back, relax, enjoy the galaxy’s finest hospitality, and watch the show around you.

Do you have to buy Disney park tickets?

Here’s another perk to a stay on the Galactic Starcruiser: You do not need to purchase a separate park ticket to enter the hotel. (The entrance is outside the park.) And, as part of your “journey,” you’ll join a special “transport” to Hollywood Studios and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on your second day. Since you’re a Star Wars hotel VIP, your tickets come with front-of-the-line Lightning Lane access to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.

On both of those rides, as well as throughout the land, you’ll use the interactive technology that’s part of the Play Disney app to complete tasks and gain points, all of which will transfer back to the hotel to unlock new info and access there as well. In addition, during the park visit, guests will be offered VIP services, including complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and lunch, and access to Oga’s Cantina (although not free menu items there).

How many rooms are there?

There are just 100 cabins in the Star Wars hotel, a fraction of what you’ll find at other Disney resort properties that often have 1,000-plus rooms. You can book three different room categories, all in a space-themed decor with silver and white backgrounds and bright orange accents.

  • Standard Cabin: This basic room fits four to five guests. It comes with a queen bed, two “berths” (padded bunks built into the wall), and a pull-down bed (similar to what you’d find on a Disney cruise).
  • Galaxy Class Suite: Interestingly, although this more expensive room has more living space—including a “bar area” and seating area—it sleeps only four, with a queen bed and two pull-down beds.
  • Grand Captain Suite: This is where the living gets large. This grand suite sleep eight and includes a big living area, a second bathroom, two queen beds, two bunks, and two pull-down beds. It would be the perfect spot to go with your extended family or a group of friends…although you don’t want to spend too much time in your room or you’ll miss out on all the action!

All rooms have mini fridges, hair-dryers, toiletries, and special windows that look into “space,” as well as televisions and interactive info pads that provide updates on the goings-on around the ship.

What’s the food like at the Star Wars hotel?

Like much Disney World food, the Galactic Starcruiser features themed offerings and decadent bites, but it has an intergalactic, and often very gourmet, twist. Even better? Since this is an all-inclusive experience, the hotel’s food and non-alcoholic beverages (including green and blue milk) are included. So feel free to sample all the Kaduu Ribs (glazed short ribs) and Mustafarian breads and spreads you’d like. However, the fancy cocktails, which you’ll want to try for Instagram status alone, cost extra.

As for what you can expect, it depends on the meal. Breakfasts and lunches are buffets, offering plated entrées with lots of protein options and clever names and presentations (e.g., Chandrila waffles and meteor eggs), plus Galaxy’s Edge’s blue and green milk in unlimited self-serve machines. Evening meals, on the other hand, are big dinner-theater presentations seated in the dining room. On the first night, guests choose meals from the menu while being entertained by Gaya, a galactic diva, and her intergalactic backup band. The second night is “Taste Around the Galaxy,” during which a parade of food with dramatic presentations becomes entertainment too. Watch for the blue shrimp from “the jungles of Felucia” (yes, blue all the way through), which are presented on a smoking platter in a blue-lit dining room that changes to match the dish.

How much does a stay here cost?

The prices for the Galactic Starcruiser are truly in line with space travel: You will not step aboard this Disney resort for less than $749 per person, per night, for your two-night stay. And that “low” price is only if you have three other people sharing your Standard Cabin. Translation: A family of four should prepare to pay $5,999, which is the starting price point, and it can go up from there. Just two of you in a basic room? That will set you back a minimum of $1,209 per person, per night, for a grand total of $4,809 per couple.

While you can have a very good stay for the base cost of your visit, this is Disney, and there are always opportunities to purchase extras, even in a galaxy far, far away. Before you arrive, you’ll be given an option to buy limited-edition role-playing costumes and clothing that complement the story line. On board, there’s also a shop where you can nab exclusive Star Wars swag you won’t find anywhere else. And then there are those drinks: All alcohol is extra, and here, it’s not just a glass of cabernet that may catch your eye. Instead, think bubbling, smoking, and colorful concoctions to sip in the exclusive lounge. Fancy mocktails carry an extra charge as well, although both green and blue milk are included in your stay.

And finally, you can pay a surcharge to dine at the captain’s table. For the extra fee, you’ll get even more character interactions and a few exclusive tasting opportunities.

How do you book the Star Wars hotel?

Much like going to space, there are a few extra steps to booking a room or suite at this intergalactic hotel. First, check Disney’s dedicated Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser web page. There, you’ll find the availability calendar and “departure” dates. However, unlike regular Disney resorts, you cannot book your room online. Instead, you’ll have to call the number listed and talk to a reservations agent to book your stay. After you’ve completed that step, you’ll need to link your reservation to your MyDisney app. Yep, it’s a lot…but it’s worth it.
