Enter the 27-foot-high glass atrium at the Butterfly Place and see hundreds of butterflies up close in a warm and sunny imitation of their natural environment. Up to 500 butterflies live in the atrium at one time, representing up to 50 species, some native and some exotic. A variety of different plants line the winding walkway, providing nectar for butterflies as well as decoration. Although other areas of the facility are air-conditioned, the atrium is kept at approximately 80 degrees to provide a comfortable habitat for its delicate inhabitants.

Those who do not wish to enter the atrium may view the butterflies from the observation room, where there are also educational displays about the life cycle of butterflies and moths. A short video presentation offers further information, and knowledgeable staff members are always available to answer questions.

Open daily mid-Feb.–mid-Nov. except major holidays. Admission charged.
