Here’s How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day, According to Your Zodiac Sign

Learning your unique zodiac love language is the key to having the best Valentine's Day ever!
’Tis the season for love! But rather than falling back on the usual Hallmark traditions, spend Feb. 14 in a way that you truly love by choosing a celebration that aligns with your Valentine’s Day zodiac sign. From going out to dinner to snuggling on the couch with a romantic movie, each sun sign has its own idea of what feels meaningful and special, says astrologer Sofia Adler, and the key to enjoying the holiday is tapping into your unique zodiac love language. For example, Sagittarius might crave adventure on the big day, while Taurus—which has that grounded Earth zodiac element—would probably prefer to keep things low-key.
Of course, because opposites attract, a mashup of zodiac-inspired celebrations might be just what Cupid ordered this Valentine’s Day. If you and your valentine have different sun signs, Adler says that “rather than focus on one event or one thing, [you] can incorporate elements into your celebration that honor both your desires and needs.” After all, compatibility is “about your ability to respect each other for who you are.” You might also want to take your rising signs into account for added thoughtfulness.

Aries love language (March 21–April 19)
People with an Aries sun sign tend to be adventurous, brimming with bravery, creativity and optimism. “The best way to an Aries’s heart is to do something physical and active that requires courage,” says Adler. “Aries is a very active, outgoing and risk-taking zodiac sign.” Getting more adventurous on Valentine’s Day doesn’t just get their adrenaline going—it also makes them feel more connected to their significant other because they can do what they love with the person they love.
A gift idea for Aries: For Valentine’s Day 2024, gift Aries something eye-catching and bold. Consider trendy apparel, bold home decor or statement jewelry.
A trip idea for Aries: Aries has an electric personality. Take them to places that are known for having fun and daring activities—think Bali, New Orleans or Las Vegas.
A date idea for Aries: The ideal Valentine’s celebration for this fire sign might entail rock climbing, hiking or “maybe even something daring in the bedroom,” says Adler.
Taurus love language (April 20–May 20)
As a Taurus, you might not feel the need to go over the top with your Valentine’s Day celebrations. According to Adler, that’s to be expected. “Taurus is all about keeping things simple,” she says, noting that Taurus is a fixed sign that has a “desire for stability, a steadfast nature and resistance to change.” While this sign likes to take things slow and steady, it doesn’t mean Taurus doesn’t want to do something special on the big day.
A gift idea for Taurus: This Valentine’s Day zodiac sign loves small indulgences. The goal: quality over quantity! Gifting them a box of gourmet chocolate, cashmere socks, luxury candles or a free facial or massage will help them tune into their senses.
A trip idea for Taurus: Since Taurus is an Earth sign, consider taking them on a trip where they can be surrounded by nature. Think a luxury lodge with a gorgeous mountainous view. A weekend stay at an island or spa resort can also be their go-to.
A date idea for Taurus: Tauruses love to indulge—but mostly at home. Adler suggests celebrating with “a cozy night in by the fire with a cup of tea, decadent chocolate and a soft cashmere blanket.”
Gemini love language (May 21–June 20)
According to Adler, the ideal Valentine’s Day celebration for a Gemini is one where “they can use their mind and learn.” Geminis also love words of affirmation and thrive on verbal praise and affection.
A gift idea for Gemini: Adler says you can’t go wrong with “books, movies, an Audible subscription or puzzles—anything that stimulates their mind and offers them the opportunity to learn.”
A trip idea for Gemini: Geminis are often outgoing (we may even consider them social butterflies!), curious and imaginative. A trip to a museum or a getaway out of state (full of landmarks, historic sites and breathtaking landscapes) will make them feel all the love. A romantic weekend in Charleston, South Carolina, might be the perfect choice, where you can stroll through the cobblestone streets while taking in the picturesque views and antebellum architecture.
A date idea for Gemini: This sign loves to be “in a state of wonder and awe,” and whether spending the holiday with friends, a significant other or solo, Gemini will want to ring in the season of love with a walking tour or even a great documentary.
Cancer love language (June 21–July 22)
Cancers are happiest when caring for others rather than letting themselves be nurtured, says Adler, so the best way for this Valentine’s Day zodiac sign to celebrate is by doing something that allows for two-way reciprocation. While a post-dinner snuggle session is probably in the cards regardless, it’s even more important to people born under this sun sign. Cancers, says Adler, “value feeling safe, connected and comforted” and want to feel a close bond with their loved ones. Additionally, Cancer is ruled by the moon, which is closely associated with the body, making skin-to-skin connection essential for this lovey-dovey sign.
A gift idea for Cancer: This water sign loves comfort, so consider gifting an ocean-inspired candle, diffuser or maybe even silk pajamas and a snuggle-worthy throw.
A trip idea for Cancer: Take your Cancer on a seaside escape—think Cape Cod, Miami Beach, Cape May or any other waterfront vacation spot.
A date idea for Cancer: “One way Cancer loves to show their love and appreciation is through cooking,” says Adler. “Pick out a recipe [with your significant other] and cook a feast.” Cooking a meal together, she notes, allows them to satisfy their desire to show care while also being cared for.
Leo love language (July 23–Aug. 22)
“If there were any sign that would spend all of Valentine’s Day in the bedroom, it would be Leo,” says Adler. “Fiery Leos are all about pleasure, joy and self-expression.” In general, whatever lights your Leo heart on fire is the best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
A gift idea for Leo: Single on Valentine’s Day? Indulge in your materialistic side by gifting yourself a glittering gemstone necklace or reserving a table for yourself and some friends at a nice restaurant.
A trip idea for Leo: For Valentine’s Day 2024, spoil your lioness or lion with a getaway to a warm, sunny destination (they are ruled by the sun, after all). Consider places that match their love for warmth, attention and grandeur—like a luxurious beach resort or vibrant cities, such as Tokyo, Las Vegas, New York City or London.
A date idea for Leo: For your Leos, consider date ideas that match their outgoing personality. A fancy dinner at a stylish restaurant, a live show or an adventurous outdoor activity will make them feel alive and special.
Virgo love language (Aug. 23–Sept. 22)
Virgos are drawn to activities where they can be of service, says Adler. That means instead of the usual dinner-and-a-movie celebration, you’d prefer to ring in Valentine’s Day by volunteering for a cause you’re passionate about.
A gift idea for Virgo: Skip the Valentine’s Day flowers and instead treat yourself or your practical Virgo love to a new houseplant. “Virgos are an Earth sign, which suggests they love to be in nature and connect to the Earth,” says Adler. “This sign is also all about mental and physical health, and houseplants help with both.”
A trip idea for Virgo: Virgos appreciate well thought-out and organized experiences. This can include wellness retreats for relaxation, cultural city tours for their analytical minds or a nature getaway. Overall, choose trips that embrace their love for detail and harmonious environments.
A date idea for Virgo: Looking for something more relationship based? Adler suggests attending a workshop either for couples or for yourself. “Virgos are all about personal growth and development, constantly seeking to be the best version of themselves possible,” she explains.
Libra love language (Sept. 23–Oct. 22)
“Libras seek balance, harmony and fairness above all else, and Valentine’s Day is no different,” says Adler. “Plan your perfect Valentine’s Day together with your friend or partner, co-creating a day that honors both of your desires equally.” Libras are all about the timeless Valentine’s Day traditions, so you can’t go wrong celebrating with a nice dinner, chocolates, jewelry and roses.
A gift idea for Libra: Libras appreciate thoughtful gestures. Consider gifting them elegant items, like stylish accessories or artwork. This Valentine’s Day zodiac sign will also love spa vouchers for relaxation or tickets to cultural events that cater to their love of harmony.
A trip idea for Libra: For the Libra in your life, a charming weekend getaway to a picturesque bed-and-breakfast may be their favorite trip.
A date idea for Libra: Libras will enjoy a theater performance or a romantic date at an art exhibit, especially if you want to cater to their desire for peace and serenity.
Sagittarius love language (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)
If you have a Sagittarius sun sign, you “want to feel free and enjoy all that life has to offer,” says Adler. To that end, she suggests a Valentine’s Day celebration in which you check out a new place or get out of town for the weekend: “Anything that feels like an adventure is the way to go.” This depends completely on your (or your Sagittarius loved one’s) interests and passions.
A gift idea for Sagittarius: Gift your Sagittarius a subscription to a learning platform or a book that can help them tap into their curious and intellectual nature. If they love adventure, gift them a bouquet of roses, along with stylish outdoor gear that they can take on their next trip. A personalized map of all the places you’ve visited as a couple would be a thoughtful gift.
A trip idea for Sagittarius: Sagittarius will enjoy trips that take them on a cultural journey, or anything that can tap into their love for exploration. If you want to go big for Valentine’s Day 2024, Thailand is the perfect choice for its vibrant culture and diverse experiences, along with New Zealand for its gorgeous landscape and outdoor activities.

Capricorn love language (Dec. 22–Jan. 19)
Albeit not the warmest and fuzziest of sun signs, Capricorns “are all about commitment” and still enjoy a good Valentine’s Day celebration. “Rather than making Valentine’s Day more special than any other day, use this day to reaffirm your commitment to yourself or your special someone,” says Adler. “It’s more important to honor [your Capricorn] loved ones every day, and not just today.” She adds that Capricorns ultimately want to build something great in their lives, so for Valentine’s Day, think about what they’re working on and honor that.
A gift idea for Capricorn: You could gift them a class that will help them get one step closer to their goals or spend the day looking at properties for their future business idea. Capricorns also like to move, so a recommitment to their health and body might also be in the cards with something like a membership to their favorite workout studio or activewear in their zodiac power color.
A trip idea for Capricorn: Capricorns are ambitious and hardworking, so they’ll love a practical and goal-oriented experience. Take them on a historical city tour to experience the traditions of a new place, or mix in some relaxation with a mountain getaway full of personal growth activities, like yoga and meditation.
A date idea for Capricorn: You can’t go wrong with a date at a romantic restaurant. Visit a museum or historic site, or consider diving into a hike to oblige their Earth-sign qualities.
Aquarius love language (Jan. 20–Feb. 18)
“Aquarius sun signs are known for their desire to buck against the status quo, so chances are the ‘normal’ Valentine’s Day activities and gifts make this sign want to gag,” says Adler. “Instead of doing what you’re ‘supposed’ to do this Valentine’s Day, be true to yourself and honor what love means to you.” Since people born under this sign are highly creative, they might enjoy spending the day indulging in their favorite artistic hobbies or trying a new DIY project.
A gift idea for Aquarius: For an Aquarius, consider forward-thinking gifts—something tech related could do the trick! A personalized art piece or even a donation to a charitable cause in their name can resonate with their humanitarian values.
A trip idea for Aquarius: This Air sign will appreciate a trip to a city known for its tech innovation—think Tokyo or San Francisco. This Valentine’s Day zodiac sign will love to celebrate by “leaning into their creative prowess,” says Adler. “Let your creative outlets sing to your soul and allow you to feel even more deeply,” she says. “This sign is inherently creative, very intuitive, musical and incredibly sensitive and empathetic.” The right activities will allow them to flex their creative muscles and make them oh-so-happy on the big day.
A gift idea for Pisces: Gift your favorite Pisces a handmade craft or a piece of art. Include a piece of ocean-inspired jewelry with your gift, especially since Pisces is symbolized by fish.
