When Season 1 of Wednesday debuted in November 2022, viewers instantly became bewitched by the unsmiling teen and her macabre boarding school mysteries. Wednesday quickly became one of the most-watched Netflix series of all time.

It’s no surprise, then, that fans were glued to their screens when part one of Wednesday Season 2 finally dropped in August 2025, after an agonizing wait of nearly three years. Since the Season 2 finale aired in September, the attention has now turned to Wednesday Season 3, including rampant speculation about its release date and plot lines.

Now, the long-awaited return of our favorite moody teen psychic may finally have a timeline to put the rumors to rest (in peace, of course).

When will Wednesday Season 3 premiere?

While there’s no official premiere date just yet, actor Luis Guzmán, who plays Gomez Addams, dropped a big hint about the timing of a third season of Wednesday in a live Q&A last month. Guzman confirmed that the Tim Burton–produced Netflix series would begin filming Season 3 in February 2026.

With that date in mind, numerous sources suggest this points toward a release date of July 2027. While this is still many months away, it won’t be nearly as long as the wait between Seasons 1 and 2, thank goodness. If Wednesday Season 3 does come out in mid-2027, viewers will have waited less than two years between Seasons 2 and 3.

Who is returning to Wednesday Season 3?

The new season of Wednesday will welcome back well-known characters who are crucial to the story’s plot. Of course, this includes Jenna Ortega as the titular character, Wednesday, and the rest of the Addams family: Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) and the delightfully evil Joanna Lumley (Grandmama Hester).

In addition to Wednesday’s family, expect to see her Nevermore classmates and instructors, including Emma Meyers (Enid), Joy Sunday (Bianca), Georgie Farmer (Ajax), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene), Billie Piper (Isadora) and Evie Templeton (Agnes). Plus Wednesday’s nemesis, Tyler, played by Hunter Doohan, is expected to return. And viewers will get to meet a much-hyped addition to the Addams family—more on that below.

Who won’t be in the new season of Wednesday?

There are a few key characters that appeared in Season 2 of Wednesday who will likely not appear in Season 3, including Steve Buscemi (principal Dort), Thandiwe Newton (Dr. Fairburn) and Christopher Lloyd (Professor Orloff) as—spoiler alert!—their characters were killed off in Season 2. Christina Ricci, who plays the villain Marilyn (aka Laurel), is also unlikely to return.

It’s unclear whether Season 2 guest star Lady Gaga will make an appearance in Wednesday Season 3 as Rosaline Rotwood. Regardless of which Hollywood stars appear in the new season, we expect it to be just as addictive and worthy of your watch list as Season 2.

Who will be joining the cast of Wednesday Season 3?

One of the most exciting new additions to the cast is French actress Eva Green, who will play the role of Ophelia Frump, Morticia’s long-lost sister. Green is well-versed in playing strange characters in mysterious worlds, having appeared in shows such as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Dark Shadows, both of which were also directed by Tim Burton.

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” Green told Tudum by Netflix. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”

Aside from Eva Green, no new characters have been announced.

What will the new season of Wednesday be about?

“We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore, and Wednesday,” Alfred Gough, co-creator and co-showrunner, told Tudum by Netflix. “We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!” added Miles Millar, co-creator and co-showrunner.

The new season of Wednesday will pick up where Season 2 left off, which means more spoilers are ahead.

Perhaps the biggest question hanging around after Season 2, teased in the finale’s shocking cliffhanger, is that fellow psychic Aunt Ophelia is not dead at all, like everyone has believed for the past two decades. Even more shockingly, Auntie O has been tucked away in secrecy by Grandmama Hester, and we first see her next to the words “Wednesday must die,” seemingly written in blood. Season 3 will likely answer the major questions raised in this finale: Why? Is Auntie O actually evil? Is Wednesday in real danger?

Wednesday’s worrisome family matters don’t stop there. Ever since Morticia gave Ophelia’s diary to Wednesday, it has opened a door to better relations between mother and daughter—and this alliance just might be crucial to solving the family’s remaining secrets.

In a recent interview, Ortega says she hopes that Season 3 explores a deeper relationship between deadpan, death-obsessed Wednesday and her all-seeing mother, Morticia. “I would like them [Morticia and Wednesday] to stop arguing and team up,” Ortega says. “We’d just been talking about women banding together, and you see that a bit in the final episode, or episodes. I think we should lean into that. It’s really exciting and refreshing to see women displayed that way.”

Another cliffhanger: What will happen to Enid, Wednesday’s roommate and closest friend? Enid was last seen roaming the woods alone after permanently transforming into a werewolf. In the new season, we hope to see Wednesday try to rescue Enid and bring her back to (human) life.

Where will Wednesday Season 3 be filmed?

The third season of Wednesday will be filmed in Ireland, according to Luis Guzmán. There isn’t a real place on earth that’s as eerie as Nevermore Academy, but apparently, the lush green isle is as close as producers could get to Wednesday’s infamously cloudy, spirit-filled world. The exact location in Ireland, however, has not been identified.

This follows suit with Season 2, which was also filmed in Ireland (in and around Dublin, to be exact). This was a major move from Season 1, which was filmed in Romania.

What shows are similar to Wednesday to watch before the Season 3 premiere?

Devoted Wednesday fans will be waiting in vain for more news about Season 3 of this smash-hit gothic series. In the meantime, here are five shows that boast the eerie, mystery-filled elements that make Wednesday so dang good.

  • Riverdale: Inspired by the Archie comic series that debuted in the early 1940s, Riverdale is about small-town teens Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead trying to solve the secrets hidden in Riverdale. The many mysteries this foursome faces range from teen murders to mob dealings to paranormal encounters and gang violence. And things just get more wild as the series stretches on. (Netflix)
  • Stranger Things: This 1980s-themed sci-fi series follows a ragtag group of kids and their siblings as they fight evil forces in their small hometown of Hawkins. Child-snatching monsters, evil scientists and alternate dimensions are just a few elements that make this spooky, mystery-filled show another Netflix hit and a favorite among Wednesday watchers. (Netflix)
  • Charmed: Wednesday fans who adore the witches and magic of the show will love taking a step back in time to watch Charmed. This series from the late 1990s and early 2000s follows three sisters who try to juggle daily life, obligations and family while also warding off evil spirits, which they achieve through powers like predicting the future and telekinesis. (Prime, Hulu, Peacock)
  • Umbrella Academy: Also based on a comic book, Umbrella Academy follows an unlikely family made up of seven superhero siblings brought together by their patriarch’s mysterious death. The group of siblings starts a barrage of problems, prompted by their powers, that they need to band together to solve. Each of the four seasons in the show brings new challenges and consequences to face. (Netflix)
  • Locke & Key: Melding fantasy, drama and mystery, Locke & Key follows three kids who move into a new home with deep family roots that’s unexpectedly haunted by a demon. This three-season series is also based on a comic book and has all the spooky circumstances and coming-of-age dramas those awaiting the new season of Wednesday are bound to love. (Netflix)
