Motorists have been paying through the nose for gasoline this year, according to GasBuddy, a smartphone gas station-finder app. Currently, the average price per gallon for regular unleaded is $2.87—but you can definitely find it for less if you know where to look.
In Alabama, the second cheapest state for buying gas, according to GasBuddy, the average price per gallon is $2.57. However, you can do even better if you gas up at the Sunoco station in Anniston, which is on US-431 near Old Gadsden Highway. If they’ve got gas—and from the reviews on GasBuddy, that’s not always the case—it’s a bargain, currently going for $2.27 per gallon. (Note that gas prices change frequently. Alaska’s one of the most expensive states for gas, with per gallon prices consistently in the top five. Currently, Alaska’s average gas costs $3.33 per gallon, but you can do a bit better if you go to the Gulf station in Wasilla (3950 S Knik Goose Bay Road), where gas is currently $3.16 per gallon. With gas prices averaging $2.59 in the home of the Razorbacks, the best you can do is purchase your gas at the EZ Mart in Fort Smith, where it’s 20 cents cheaper than the state average.
