Buttercream Frosting

Our home economists suggest keeping the recipe for this creamy frosting handy because it deliciously tops cakes as well as cookies.


  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 8 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Food coloring, optional

    How to make it

    In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, confectioners’ sugar, milk and vanilla (frosting will be thick). Add food coloring if desired. Makes 5 cups.
