Look what has happened to the traditional chocolate chip cookie! This one has only half the fat of the original, plus old-fashioned oats that give a fiber boost. Yet all of this trimming has not slimmed down the flavor. These cookies will still vanish just as fast!

4 tablespoons margarine
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar

1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/3 cup reduced-fat sour cream
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Add egg and vanilla and beat until light yellow and creamy, about 3 minutes. Way Back When
That first chocolate chip cookie was baked in a 1709 tollhouse, known to the neighbors as the Toll House Inn. In the 1930s, as the story goes, owner Mrs. Ruth Wakefield was experimenting with an old American cookie recipe of butter drop-do’s. She decided to chop up a chocolate bar and throw it into the dough. Much to her amazement, the chocolate didn’t melt in the oven, but remained as small bites of chocolate when baked.
