Did you know that otters hold hands when they sleep so they don’t float away from each other?

These adorable, charming animals exist around the globe, but only two species exist in the United States: the sea otter and the North American river otter. Unfortunately, these animals were formally hunted heavily to near extinction because of their soft, fluffy fur which is why they are currently under protection by various endangered species laws. In addition to hunting, otters face other threats such as pollution, global warming, and other careless actions by humans. The best conservation effort is to learn as much as possible about the species and their needs. In the meantime, take a look at the adorable photos below as a reminder of how loveable these animals are. Also, check out these wild animal species you never knew were endangered.
