In Alabama, the second cheapest state for buying gas, according to GasBuddy, the average price per gallon is $2.57. However, you can do even better if you gas up at the Sunoco station in Anniston, which is on US-431 near Old Gadsden Highway. If they’ve got gas—and from the reviews on GasBuddy, that’s not always the case—it’s a bargain, currently going for $2.27 per gallon. (Note that gas prices change frequently. Alaska: $3.16
Alaska’s one of the most expensive states for gas, with per gallon prices consistently in the top five. Currently, Alaska’s average gas costs $3.33 per gallon, but you can do a bit better if you go to the Gulf station in Wasilla (3950 S Knik Goose Bay Road), where gas is currently $3.16 per gallon. Arkansas: $2.39
With gas prices averaging $2.59 in the home of the Razorbacks, the best you can do is purchase your gas at the EZ Mart in Fort Smith, where it’s 20 cents cheaper than the state average. GasBuddy’s commentators vouch for the cheap prices but agree it’s not the cleanest or the most courteous gas stations out there. With the average price of gas at $2.85 and the best price being $2.65, Delaware doesn’t offer any super bargains for gas. The least expensive gas you’ll find in Florida is in Brandon, where both Costco and Sam’s Club are selling it for $2.48 per gallon currently. The average price for gas in Florida is about 25 cents more expensive at $2.74 per gallon.
Georgia: $2.44
The average gas price in Georgia is $2.77, but you can find it for $2.44 in both Augusta (a city near the South Carolina border) and Evans, which is a suburb of Augusta. Check the two Sprint stations and the Murphy station.

In Illinois, you’ll shell out $2.95 per gallon on average for gas, but if you can find several options for $2.60 and under per gallon. Indiana: $2.49
If you’re in Indiana, you’re paying, on average, $2.92 per gallon for gas. But if you could get yourself over to Gary, Indiana, you’d find a serious bargain at the GoLo on the corner of Fifth and Chase, where gas is as low as $2.49 per gallon. The next cheapest gas is $2.65 the going price at most Family Express stations in Indiana.
Iowa: $2.51
In Iowa, the average price per gallon is $2.77 but you can find gas for $2.51 at the Murphy USA and the Sam’s Club in Ankeny. Nearby stations in Ankeny will run you close to $3.00 per gallon, so you’ll definitely want to pay close attention before you pump. You’ll also find gas for $2.51 at the Murphy USA in Altoona. Kansas: $2.45
The average price per gallon in Kansas is $2.64, but many gas stations in Dodge City, Newton, and a couple in Coffeyville and Garden City, offer gas for as little as $2.45 per gallon. These include several Quik Shops and a couple of Dillons, as well as a Murphy USA and a Sam’s Club.
Kentucky: $2.42
The average price per gallon in Kentucky is $2.77, but at four different stations (Marathon, Pilot, Kroger, and Murphy USA) in Middleboro, you can find gas for as low as $2.42. About an hour away, in Corbin, many of the gas stations are selling gas for just a little more at $2.49 per gallon.
Louisiana: $2.37
The third least expensive state in which to buy gas, Louisiana enjoys an average price per gallon of $2.57, and you can do as well as $2.37 if you head over any of these stations, of which the highest rated among GasBuddy reviewers is the Murphy USA at the intersection of Latiolais and Bridge in Beaux Bridge. Massachusetts: $2.56
Gas prices in the Bay State are just slightly higher than in Maine, with the average price per gallon being $2.88. But if you find yourself near Fitchburg, you’ll score gas for $2.56 per gallon at the Royal Fuel station at the corner of Water and Duck Mill. Try to guess every U.S. state by its flag?
Michigan: $2.51
With an average gas price of $2.90 per gallon, Michigan is getting up there with its gas prices. But you can find a better deal in Fremont, where four stations are offering gas at $2.53 and under (Marathon, BP, Speedway, and Westco). At the Marathon station in Fremont, the gas is $2.51 per gallon.
Minnesota: $2.63
The average gas price in Minnesota is $2.80, with better pricing ($2.64) to be found at a number of Costcos and Sam’s Clubs across the state. But the best price of all is in South St. Paul: $2.63 per gallon at the Danner station at the intersection of Hardman and I-494.
Mississippi: $2.33
When it comes to average gas prices, Mississippi has the rest of the country beat at $2.56 per gallon. You can do even better if you buy gas in New Albany, where the cheapest gas in the state can be found for $2.33 at two different stations (Pilot and Circle K) located at the same intersection (MS-15 and US-78). GasBuddy reviewers say Pilot has the best Slurpees, but if you want to avoid the big rigs gassing up, then head to the Circle K.
Missouri: $2.42
The Show-Me State does better than most with an average price per gallon of $2.67. There are many stations, however, where you can find gas for as cheap as $2.42. These include Dirt Cheap in Afton, Ayerco in Hannibal, and Hot Spot in Nevada. Don’t miss these crazy world records set in each state.
Nebraska: $2.42
Nebraska gas prices are getting up there, having gone up nearly a cent in recent days, which makes Nebraska one of the states with the most volatile gas pricing. The average gas price is $2.78 per gallon currently, but you can still get gas in Omaha for under $2.45 per gallon at a number of different locations, and as low as $2.42 per gallon at the Costco at the intersection of Dodge and 120th.
Nevada: $2.79
The average price per gallon is $3.19, making Nevada the sixth most expensive state in which to buy gas. But you can find it for as little as $2.79 if you buy your gas in a number of stations in Fernley and Pahrump, including the Pilot, the Quik Stop, and the 76.
New Hampshire: $2.58
New Hampshire’s average per gallon gas price is $2.80, but you’ll find prices as low as $2.58 at the Budget Gas in Goffstown and the Budget Gas in Manchester. Find out the bucket list thing to do in each of the 50 states.
New Jersey: $2.63
In New Jersey, the average price per gallon is $2.89, which is on par with Arizona, but whereas you can find gas for as low as $2.49 in Arizona, the lowest price you’ll find in New Jersey is $2.63 (at Delta stations in New Milford and Elmwood Park). But if you don’t like pumping your own gas, New Jersey is the place you want to be, as its the only state in the union which does not allow consumers to pump their own gas.
New Mexico: $2.41
With an average per gallon gas prices at $2.70, New Mexico is among the top 13 cheapest states to buy gas. Even better, a lot of the least expensive gas in the state is right in Albuquerque, where it’s $2.44 at a variety of gas stations, including several Costcos, Sam’s Club, Murphy’s, and 7-Elevens. You can get gas for a bit cheaper in Socorro, where it’s currently $2.41 per gallon at the Alon.
New York: $2.47
New York is one of the more expensive states to buy gas. The average price is $2.98, and there are stations where it goes for upwards of $4.00 per gallon! The best you can do in New York is $2.47 per gallon, but you’ll have to be way upstate in Irving, on the shores of Lake Erie. It’s not too far from Buffalo and its many gas stations are serving up most of the least expensive gas in New York.
North Carolina: $2.40
In the tiny town of Cameron, you’ll find the cheapest gas in North Carolina, at the Murphy Express, where gas is $2.40 per gallon. The average price per gallon in North Carolina is $2.67, so it’s quite a savings, as long as you don’t mind driving out of your way (assuming you’re not one of the 285 people who call Cameron home). North Dakota: $2.45
With average gas prices of $2.82 per gallon, North Dakota is mid-pack compared with the average gas prices in other states. You can find discounts of up to 16 cents per gallon all over the Fargo area, with the best price being $2.45, which you’ll find at the Costo in West Fargo (at the intersection of 23rd and Veteran’s).
Ohio: $2.33
The average gas price in Ohio lands near the middle at $2.89, but one of the least expensive places to buy gas in the country also happens to be in Ohio. That’s the town of Hillsborough, where six different service stations offer gas at $2.41 and under. The best price can be found at the Marathon on Main, where it intersects with Highland: gas prices are down to an impressively low $2.33.
Oklahoma: $2.38
The average price per gallon in Oklahoma is $2.60, and the best price currently is $2.38, which you can find at two stations in Lawton: the EZ Go (NW Cache Rd near NW 64th) and Murphy Express (Intersection of W Gore and NW Sheridan). Don’t miss the most iconic book set in every state.

Oregon is one of the more expensive states for gas with a state average price per gallon of $3.27. You can find much cheaper gas, however, in Madras at the 76 at the intersection of NW 5th Street and Poplar Street. In the tiny state of Rhode Island, gas prices are middle of the road with an average price per gallon of $2.90. A discount of as much as 20 cents can be found in East Providence at the Sunoco station on Warren (near I-95), where the price of gas is currently $2.69 per gallon.
South Carolina: $2.38
At both Sam’s Club and Costo in Spartanburg, you can pump gas for $2.38 per gallon, which is nearly 20 cents cheaper than the state average of $2.58. This is the cheapest month of the year to visit all 50 states.
South Dakota: $2.61
At $2.89 per gallon, on average, South Dakota is in the middle of the pack when it comes to gas prices. But you can get discounts of nearly 30 cents per gallon if you head to Tyndall, where gas is $2.61 per gallon at Frank’s Trading Post and two different Casey’s locations.
Tennessee: $2.39
The average price per gallon of gas in Tennessee is $2.64. At three different locations in Hendersonville (Hendersonville Thornton’s, Speedway, and Sam’s Club), however, you can top off your tank for as low as $2.39 per gallon. Don’t miss the wackiest street names in every state.

All six gas stations in the town of Stephenville offer gas at $2.34 per gallon, which is nearly 30 cents cheaper than the state’s $2.62 per gallon average. And of the top 10 cities in the country to purchase gas, five are located in Texas (San Antonio, Lubbock, Corpus Christie, Rio Grande Valley, and Waco), where the prices hover around $2.50 per gallon. The Beehive State is one of the more expensive states for gas; the average price per gallon is 20 cents higher than the national average at $3.01, with prices around the state peaking at $3.80. The best you can really do in Utah is $2.84 at the Costco in Orem and the Sam’s Club in Provo. There are also a number of warehouse stores around the state where you can find gas for just a penny more.
Vermont: $2.67
At $2.90, the average price per gallon is higher than the national average in the Green Mountain State. The best you can do is at the West Street Corner station in Rutland, where at $2.67. You can also get gas for just two cents more per gallon at the Irving station in Rutland and the Sunoco and the Cumberland Farms stations in West Brattleboro.
Virginia: $2.33

Wisconsin: $2.64
Wisconsin is in the middle of the pack when considering the most and least expensive states for filling up your tank: The average price per gallon is $2.82.
