Nicest Places in America 2024 Official Contest Rules

To nominate a place, you must be a legal U.S. resident age 18 or older at the time of participation and fill out the entry form with all required sections. The entry period will run from September 1, 2023 until August 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. Reader’s Digest reserves the right to change the entry period at any time for any reason. Entries received after the entry period has ended will not be considered. Reader’s Digest is the official timekeeper for this promotion. Void where prohibited. Employees, officers and directors, and their immediate family members and members of their household (whether related or not), of Reader’s Digest, its parent and affiliated companies and any promotion partner or agent are prohibited from nominating a place and from voting in this promotion.

To complete your entry, make sure to include great stories about all the people and organizations that make it one of the Nicest Places in America, following the instructions on the entry form. Pictures are encouraged but not required. And the more you send us, the better your entry! Photos and text in each submission must be the original work of entrant. Photos submissions must be compatible with our systems.

Qualifying entries will be considered in the naming of finalists, which will be viewable on rd.com. Entry qualification will be determined by the editors of Reader’s Digest. Qualified entries must meet minimum criteria, including but not limited to a fully completed entry in accordance with all requirements, an engaging description of the place and at least one engaging story that demonstrates what makes this place so nice. Some entries may not appear on the site. Reader’s Digest reserves the right to remove content at any time and for any reason. Editors’ decisions on qualifying entries, finalists and the winners are final.

What constitutes a “nicest” place? It’s a place where the people believe in kindness, civility, and each other, neighbors help each other out, and strangers are welcomed as friends. And, for the sake of this promotion, each “place” must be in the United States (for example, a town, neighborhood, building, park, or a particular establishment, such as a business, place of worship or community center, etc.) and each entrant must designate the place with a single Zip code even if the place includes multiple Zip codes. Motor vehicles, trains, boats and other conveyances will also be considered.

Once the entry period is over, Reader’s Digest editors will select finalists from the qualifying nominees. The finalists and winners will be chosen by Reader’s Digest editors in their sole judgment. The process may include an online vote; if so, the voting terms and conditions will be posted on this site. Reader’s Digest editors will consider a possible voting tally and other factors they deem relevant, including but not limited to embodiment of the spirit of niceness and the kindness of the people in the place, in determining the winner[s].
