We have met hundreds of people who have visited Door County, Wisconsin, and never heard a negative word about the sites, people, views, value, restaurants, or resorts/hotels. Those who frequent it are often fishermen, honeymooners, and families looking for water sports and fun in the sun. It is made up of miles of shoreline on both sides of the peninsula, and each town has a personality of it’s own with so many fun events and things to do.

Stories About Door County

We’ve seen people of all nationalities and backgrounds share local “fish boils,” cookouts, ship cruises, and beaches, never finding a disgruntled group or individual anywhere. Acts of kindness are abundant throughout the area. For example, we stopped at a restaurant in Sister Bay after an evening cruise for some soup and coffee on a cool night in September. It was about to close but the hostess and waitresses kept it open and not only served us sandwiches, coffee, and hot soup, but brought out cozy blankets to cover us with as we ate. This is only the tip of the iceberg though, because everyone in town is so into the sharing of their “peninsula culture” that we can’t help but keep a smile on our faces everywhere we go. We have visited 10-15 times from Chicago, with different groups of people and everyone shares the same appreciation of the towns, sites, activities, and especially the residents and business owners.
