Lafayette is a small city with a vibe all its own. It’s a college town that combines business and technology with an arts community that has spawned GRAMMY winners, novelists, painters, filmmakers, songwriters, and many other creative types. The Cajun and Creole cultures are palpable and best experienced through the food, music, and people of the area. People here work as hard as they play, and love to show visitors the best their hometown has to offer. If locals encounter visitors, they first thing they ask is, “Where have you eaten?” Then, they will proceed to give them a list of where they must go while they are in Lafayette. It’s not unheard of for visitors to be invited to private parties, crawfish boils, or backyard barbecues if the mood is right.
Stories About Lafayette
A French couple stopped in the Kaliste Saloom branch of Home Bank. They needed help, as their credit card had been stolen while on vacation. They had a debit card for their bank in France and were trying to figure out how to make a withdrawal so they could get cash. The banking center manager reached out to staff for assistance with translating. As it happens, one of their employees is from Mauritius, an Indian Ocean island nation where French is the native language, who was able to translate for them. The banking center manager called Visa with the help of the French-speaking employee and was able to determine that the couple could use the card at Western Union for advances while overseas. The Home Bank team directed them to the closest location so the couple could make a withdrawal and continue with their vacation.
