A beautiful little town consisting of stately Southern homes and yards filled with dogwood, lilac, holly, and boxwood trees. Children can play safely here without parental supervision, and there are three baseball fields and playground for the kids to have fun. You can head downtown to see the Funeral Museum, or visit our art gallery.

Stories About Chatham

A Chatham councilman volunteers to mow lawns for the elderly, as well as a grassy area that belongs to the town and the yards of unoccupied houses. Chatham First is a group of volunteers who sponsor monthly classic cruise-ins, a community market and herb garden, and a Christmas parade. The group maintains lovely flower beds and hanging flower pots all over town. The town is home to two handsome boarding schools: Chatham Hall and Hargrave Military Academy. Chatham is the seat of Pittsylvania County, founded by William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham.
