Summer will be here before you know it, so now’s the perfect time to stock up on bathing suits, sunscreen and cover-ups. As a plus-size woman, I have a love-hate relationship with bathing suit shopping. Usually, plus-size swimsuits either have a top that’s too small, a bottom that’s too big or they simply lack the cute styles I prefer. While scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon a swimsuit designed specifically for plus-size ladies, and I felt compelled to give it a try. Read on for my Miraclesuit review to see if it lives up to the hype.

What is the Miraclesuit?

The Miraclesuit is exactly what it sounds like—a miracle swimsuit. Its claim to fame is that it’s supposed to make you look and feel “10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds.” In a society where people are obsessed with vanity and that irresistible va-va-voom factor, it comes as no surprise (at least to me) that Miraclesuit swimwear has gained a devoted following on social media. Fans share photos and testimonials praising its “excellent fit” and “flattering” qualities. According to users, it’s the key to the impossible task of looking thinner in a swimsuit.

The contouring Miraclesuit comes in various silhouettes and prints, but I chose the classic black version for my Miraclesuit review. The brand offers three different support levels for its shapewear pieces, and the Miraclesuit specifically boasts a “serious support” ranking of 3/3. I placed my order and about a week later the suit arrived at my door. Upon opening it, I discovered a sleek black one-piece neatly folded in plastic. The fabric felt both stretchy and soft to the touch, which made me eager to put it on.

Miraclesuit Oceanus Swimsuit features

The Miraclesuit itself combines nylon, Spandex and Miratex fabric to provide all-over body contouring and tummy control, all while shaping and slimming the figure. The material has a slightly thicker texture compared to the average bathing suit, ensuring everything stays in place both at rest and in motion.

Unlike many standard one-pieces, this particular design offers full-butt coverage, leaving no area too exposed. The supportive straps effectively lift the chest, both in and out of the water. The fit empowers shoppers to feel comfortable and confident in a bathing suit for their body type without compromising on style. The Oceanus is available in sizes 8 to 10 and 16W to 24W for the plus version.

How we tested it

For this Miraclesuit review, I tested various aspects of the bathing suit including the fit, comfort level, support and drying time. Initially, it wasn’t too comfortable when I put it on. I followed the brand’s recommendation and ordered my usual size of 2X. While I expected some level of compression, I wasn’t fully aware of how it would feel. It didn’t resemble wearing a corset or Spanx swimwear necessarily, but there was definite pressure around my midriff. I couldn’t envision myself wearing it comfortably for extended periods—I would say an hour or two at most.

However, after looking in the mirror, I noticed that it cinched in my waist, accentuating my curves and breasts in a flattering way. Regarding the claim of appearing “10 pounds lighter in 10 minutes,” I didn’t personally experience that effect during my Miraclesuit review. My body looked the same but shifted in different directions to create the illusion of more “societally acceptable” proportions (such as a smaller waist and larger hips), similar to what plus-size activewear typically does.

I felt fantastic in the water, and the swimsuit maintained its shape without sagging or shifting, even after doing some laps and handstands. The best part? I didn’t get a wedgie, which typically ranks high on my list of complaints with bathing suits. When I emerged from the pool, it took approximately 10 minutes of laying in the sun for the suit to completely dry. Considering the slightly thicker material, I anticipated it would retain more water and require a longer drying time. However, the quick-dry feature left me thoroughly impressed.

FAQ

Should I size up in the Miraclesuit?

The brand recommends sizing up in Miraclesuit swimwear if you prefer a less restrictive fit. However, based on my experience, I believe that the compression benefits wouldn’t be as effective if the swimsuit was loose, since it’s the snugness that creates the illusion of a cinched waist and a smooth midriff.

How do you know if a swimsuit is too small?

A swimsuit is too small if the straps are digging into the shoulders, the band is too tight or the cups aren’t offering a sufficient amount of coverage. Additionally, you may not feel comfortable and confident if the swimsuit is too small, which is a tell-tale sign to size up.

Do swimsuits get tighter or looser when wet?

Swimsuits will usually get tighter in water as the fabric constricts. However, this is generally dependent on the material. From my Miraclesuit review, it gets slightly looser in the water since Lycra expands when wet.

What other reviewers have to say

“I’ve never, ever been comfortable in a swimsuit, ever,” says verified Miraclesuit shopper, Jeane. “But this suit is the closest I’ve ever been to it. It’s a beautiful color, the fit makes me actually look flattering, and I’m very happy with it.”

“Your suit was just the ticket,” raves Yvonne M., a mature Miraclesuit shopper who didn’t expect to wear a bathing suit this summer. “I even bought a swim skirt…This skirt is slimming and will hide my crinkle skin in my upper thighs. Thank you, it is perfect for my needs. Now my niece, the mother of two beautiful children, will be getting one as well.”

Verified Miraclesuit buyer Florence G. says, “I am 5’3”, 190 pounds with a large bust, and I’m developing the age-old gut. I feel beautiful in this suit. It covers the bust well with good support; it’s flattering over the middle.”

Final verdict

If you’re searching for another form-fitting swimsuit that fits like a glove, look no further than the Miraclesuit Oceanus. While I’m pretty body-positive, this swimsuit gave me the extra boost of confidence I needed to make a splash. Even after several weeks of use, the bathing suit didn’t lose its luster. It provided the same impeccable fit both in and out of the water.

For $180, some may consider it steep, and there’s no denying that it’s pretty pricey for a swimsuit. However, if there’s one takeaway from this Miraclesuit review, it’s that this swimsuit is worth every penny. The high-quality fabrics make it an ideal choice for anyone who wants a fashionable and flattering bathing suit at any age capable of withstanding numerous dips in the pool and visits to the beach.
