The designer
Meghan Markle surprised everyone by choosing a designer headquartered in Paris instead of England. However, the designer of her dress, Clare Waight Keller, is British. Markle chose Keller as a tribute to her new country.
Tribute to the Commonwealth
The flowers sewn into her veil represent the 53 nations of the Commonwealth. Both Meghan and Harry wanted to pay tribute to Harry’s role as Youth Ambassador for the Commonwealth on their wedding day. Keller suggested using the wildflower from each nation when Markle told her she wanted to include a piece of all 53 countries in her veil. Harry actually didn’t know that Meghan had chosen to include the nations in her veil and was “over the moon” when he found out on their wedding day. The veil
The silk veil is 16 feet long and took 500 hours to embroider. Each flower was appliqued onto the veil, giving it dimension and texture.
