Long Island schools are very segregated due to municipal boundaries, so the area tends to be very racially divided. But at West Hempstead High School, where I have taught for 30 years, student body is diverse and yet so united! I love it.

Stories About West Hempstead High School

The kids and teachers find solace in each other during tragedy. After Hurricane Sandy, we pulled together to make care packages, as parts of our district were badly affected. We raise money for causes that peak student concern, and upperclassmen work on Service-Learning projects.
