Clorox Has Recalled 37 Million Pine-Sol Products Over Infection-Causing Bacteria

With the busy holiday season just around the corner, many of us are getting into cleaning mode. Before you start any cleaning schedule or your household chores, you should first check your favorite Pine-Sol cleaners.
On October 25th, Clorox issued a voluntary recall of an estimated 37 million select Pine-Sol cleaning products. The recall affects consumers nationwide and particularly those with compromised immune systems—here’s everything you need to know:
Which Pine-Sol products are recalled?
There are eight Pine-Sol products affected by the recall. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), these are the products to look out for:
- Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners: Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave and Lemon Fresh scents
- CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners: Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh and Orange Energy scents
- Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners
The recall affects products of the following sizes: 28, 48, 60, 100, 144 and 175 fluid ounces.
The company stated that they have issued the recall “to safeguard your health and wellbeing,” and that, fortunately, no injuries or incidents had been reported. The recall does not affect original Pine-Sol scented products.
Why was the recall issued?
The potential findings of bacteria in the Pine-Sol products, specifically a bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa, triggered the recall. While the bacteria is “found widely in soil and water,” it can still cause harm.
According to the CPSC, this is because the bacteria can easily “enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin.” As a result, individuals with compromised immune systems or with an external medical device may contract an infection that requires medical treatment.
Additionally, the CPSC stated that those with healthy immune systems are not typically impacted by the bacteria.
How do I know if I bought a recalled product?
The recall affects the select products manufactured by Clorox at its Forest Park, Georgia facility from January 2021 to September 2022. From the facility, the products were sold from $2.50-$12.50 on Amazon.com, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Dollar General, Target, Home Depot, BJ’s, Kroger, Dollar Tree, Lowe’s, Publix websites and through other big-store retailers.
Furthermore, specific date codes for the products begin with “A4,” and “the first five digits numbered less than 22249” come after. Check the production code stamped on the side of the product to see if yours was affected.
What should I do next?
First, the CPSC advises that if you are in possession of any of the affected products to stop using them right away and dispose of them. If you’re in doubt. we recommend throwing the product out to help keep your family and friends safe.
