What the 2020 Summer Solstice Means for Your Zodiac
With a trio of eclipses surrounding the longest day of the year, some serious cosmic forces are at work this summer. Find out what to expect—and plan accordingly!
Big changes ahead!
The summer solstice will soon light the earth with the longest day and shortest evening of 2020, marking the beginning of summer in a year in which we could use all the light and warmth the sun can offer. This year’s summer solstice falls on June 20 (or June 21, depending on where you live on the planet), and according to astrologer Susan Miller, it’s a particularly big deal because it coincides with a solar eclipse on June 21. In fact, it’s the second of three eclipses within the span of a few weeks; the other two are lunar eclipses on June 5 and July 4.
“Eclipses are like wild cards that carry news of life’s big events,” Miller says. Powerful is the word that she uses to describe the energy surrounding the summer solstice and the trio of eclipses. While eclipses are neither good nor bad, Miller notes, they do tend to accelerate your sense of time and shake up timetables. Here’s what the start of summer has in store for your sign. And in general, these are the best days to do everything in 2020, according to astrology.
Aries (March 21–April 19)
The fiery ram is the first sign of the zodiac, and this bold personality typically lights up the planet. The home will be a big focus for rams as summer 2020 kicks off, notes Miller, as will parents or parental figures. And that’s not all: “Moving forward is important for Aries [right now],” says Miller. She adds that some rams will feel like they are crossing a rickety bridge, and just as they get to the other side, they’ll look over their shoulder and see everything collapse. So, forge ahead this summer…and don’t look back except to breathe a sigh of relief.
Speaking of family relationships, this is the kind of parent you’ll be (or already are), based on your zodiac sign.
Taurus (April 20–May 20)
Communication will be key for the bull, who may soon be getting a book contract or being sought after for a writing or speaking gig, according to Miller. But, she notes, it’s important to “get a lawyer to find out what is not in the contract.” She advises creating a blueprint for success by making sure that everyone is on the same page.
Gemini (May 21–June 20)
The twins will have double the amount of joy on the day that boasts the longest period of sunlight. In fact, Miller says, they just might find a new source of income. “If you are self-employed, you may find a new client,” she says. “You will be one lucky little leprechaun! You can earn good money during this time.” While Geminis might be raking in the dough this summer, can you guess which zodiac sign produces the most billionaires?
Cancer (June 21–July 22)
If the solstice falls directly on your birthday (or within a five-day period of it), this year will be a crucial one for you. “People who are born between June 20 and 24 are going to feel double the effects of the eclipse [because] it is aligned with their natal sun,” says Miller. She adds that this year’s summer solstice is very important for those born under the sign of Cancer. Unfortunately, it might create some unexpected complications for them.
Leo (July 23–August 22)
The summer solstice will be all about secrets for the dramatic lions, according to Miller. “Perhaps you will be working on a confidential project,” she says. Miller also predicts that things that have gone under the radar until now will come to light for Leos, and in general, it will be a very good time for this sign.

Virgo (August 23–September 22)
This earth sign may be logical and practical, but it’s all about friendship when there is an eclipse for Virgos, says Miller. “A person may be eclipsed out of your life—for example, a friend who gets married,” notes Miller, adding that people you know through a club or political organization may be a part of this affected friendship circle. But this time isn’t just about loss—it’s also about gain. In fact, now is the time to jump into the universe and make meaningful connections. “It is also about engaging in a humanitarian effort by helping a cause,” Miller adds. “You may be inspired by a charity or a political candidate running for office.”
Libra (September 23–October 22)
This air sign is best known for its sense of balance and will be lauded with honors, awards, and even fame as the second eclipse collides with the summer solstice. “Perhaps you will find a new job,” says Miller, adding that Libras will be holding all the aces, so they should seize the moment and really go for it. You’ll also have a better chance of success right now if you work with a creative and artistic partner like a Pisces, Miller adds. In case you were wondering, this is your biggest career strength, according to your zodiac sign.
Scorpio (October 23–November 21)
Intense and intuitive Scorpios are advised to work with an individual from a foreign country during this powerful moment, says Miller, who advises looking to academia. “Take a course online or enjoy a gap year if you can’t get a job,” she suggests. Publishing or broadcasting will also be important for Scorpios—in fact, the media may want to interview you for a story or ask you to write a column. “You could be the producer or the subject,” predicts Miller.
Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)
Independent and adventurous archers will be delighted by the effects of the summer solstice: A windfall of money may be blowing their way. “The money will come to you in a new form like a tax refund, insurance payment, financial aid, inheritance, or commission, or a bonus check could arrive in the mail,” says Miller. All signs, pay attention: Here’s how to use your zodiac sign to make more money.
Capricorn (December 22–January 19)
The winds of change are in the air for the smart and hardworking goat as the radiant sun travels its longest path through the sky. “It’s been as if you have been walking on broken glass, and now things will begin to get better,” says Miller. Capricorns may also get help from a partner, a business partner, agent, or lawyer. “Working one-on-one in your job will make you more successful,” Miller notes. “There is a lucky opportunity coming.”
Aquarius (January 20–February 18)
Unique and artistic Aquarians (think Ed Sheeran) will see new job opportunities as the summer solstice graces the planet. Miller notes that the job opportunities may not necessarily be more prestigious and could actually be quite similar to what you are already doing, but they will be a bit more lucrative and help with expenses. Whether the job is full time or part-time, it will be something extra that you will enjoy. By the way, this is your most attractive trait, based on your zodiac sign.
Pisces (February 19–March 20)
It’s all about love, romance, and creativity for the emotional and empathetic lover of water. Be prepared to meet someone as the second eclipse hovers above. You will also be brimming with affection toward something of your own creation. That “baby” (perhaps a creative project) will be highlighted at this time.
