I’m sorry you are lost. I’m an atheist and easily see that modern religion in America is under attack. Especially Christianity. Liberals do not like an organization that as so much power they can’t influence or control outright.

They hate the fact that religious leaders are people they cannot vote out or impeach!
Who is the moron? Look in the mirror!!!

I’ve been enjoying a “personal relationship” with THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS now for some 40+ years…..I too thank Chris Brown for having the “I”, “M” HONESTY and COURAGE to say what he said. And Chris…..you may not be “LOST” yet…..as long as you have LIFE and BREATH….you may be given “eyes to SEE and ears to HEAR” as a GIFT from YAHWEH HIMSELF (aka: The “Alpha & Omega”, “First & Last”, “Wonderful Counselor”, “Prince of Peace”, etc.) because…..Jesus died to pay your WAY to Paradise, too. You just must come to the point where you “recognize your NEED for CHRIST”….(ie: you finally realize that you are NOT in the “DRIVER’S SEAT” of your “life”….that, in fact, EVERY BREATH…..EVERY MINUTE YOUR HEART BEATS…..is FROM (by way of a GIFT) from the guy who said, “I AM the way, and the truth and the life….and NO ONE comes to THE FATHER except through me” (HE paid with HIS BLOOD so that you could have ETERNAL LIFE….then HE arose, and now sits in THE HEAVENLY’S at GOD’S RIGHT HAND…..desiring that at some point, you WILL surrender your whole heart to HIM….as I did 40+ years ago….and “WE” have been “BESTTTTTTTT FRIENDSSSSSS” ever since ;) I am praying for you, Chris (and a few others that still have not met Jesus)

I believe liberals have a lot of religious leaders in their camp, but since their influence is not total (as it is in so-called “higher education”), and it offers that man is not the be-all and end-all of the life cycle, they find it anathema. It would be humorous to see Christians act like muslims regarding press and other coverage. I am not an athiest, but I am also not a Christian, by most definitions.

          • AugustineThomas

            Muslims murder journalists.

Christians give them a country to mock and denigrate that, for some crazy reason, still protects them (85-95% of the US Army is Christian).

90-95% of the “elite” bloodsuckers are “spiritual but not religious” or atheist.

          • Klaus

If America gave up its Christianity, would it still invade foreign countries? Last I checked, the Prince of Peace didn’t kill Pakistani children with His predator drone. Only in a “Christian” nation is “turn the other cheek” twisted into a million dead Iraqis. America will be Judged. It is crumbling by Holy Decree.

          • gary grady

Looks like the MSM propagandists worked on this clown. “…a million dead Iraqis.”. Klaus was probably one that was polled by RD.

          • TNFamily

Last time I checked, the government (who is the commanding entity for the armed forces) isn’t exactly holding prayer services daily. In fact they are trying to eliminate God in courtrooms, schools, public areas, etc. etc. So to pin the attack of Pakistani children on a Christian is a stretch to put it mildly.

“A million dead Iraqis” Hahahahaha! I’d love to have some of what you are smoking. If you’d like to discuss numbers, here’s a few for you. According to the United nations and supported by Doctors without Borders and Amnesty International, Saddam Hussein had been murdering 25,000 Iraqi citizens a year for 20 years, bringing the total murdered, tortured and raped under his regime to half a million people. Those same sources indicated that the U.S. led coalition has been responsible for approximately 10,000 Iraqi “collateral damage” death a year since they went into Iraq. So, the argument can be made that the Bush led coalition has been responsible for saving the lives of 15,000 Iraqi civillians a year. Judge that.

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

Wow, I guess you’re taking something from the Silver Linings Playbook that Bradley Cooper’s character espouses that there’s a silver lining to everything and by God, in all that death and loss you were able to find the Silver Lining. Doesn’t matter that we propped up Saddam, sold him weapons. trained his troops same as the travesty we created in Afghanistan. Ron Paul was absolutely correct when he said in a debate that much of what has happened in the Middle East and around the world is because of blow back from our own policies going back to US backed coup which toppled a democratically elected president in Iran and put in our puppet just to support oil interest. And if you don’t believe that’s true then look up your history to find out how our armed forces have been used around the world for corporate interest, in fact, look up what Smedley Butler had to say to a group of college students at a lecture, in I believe, 1933 or better yet, what he had to say to Congress which did conclude there was evidence to support General Butler’s claim . Who was Smedley Butler? Look him up and it’s tough to refute a 4 Star General, much loved by his men, and 2, count them, 2 time recipient of the Medal of Honor. Just read the transcript of the college lecture he gave and what he had to say to Congress. Unbelievable, but no one was ever charged.

States going broke, cities filing for bankruptcy. No budget for over 4 years, government spending money like its going to last forever. Families breaking up in record numbers. i could go on and on here but if you don’t see it by now then there’s no hope for this country. Mark, that is what happens when you have a black non-citizen muslim in your w/h. mr oboma is the biggest deception brought upon any nation in the world know to mankind to date. All black people, including the welfare blacks should demand more from someone in the same race. If we had an American in the w/h, we would not have all the mass shooting going on, all the muslims being brought over to America and put on the welfare system as to cause kayos when the time comes as they have destroyed Europe. America needs to implement the same rules for muslims as the Japanese people have put on muslims, the know what the muslims are trying to do, and that’s muslim law over the whole world. You don’t have to be very smart to see that they are trying very hard to go to other democratic countrys and control the votes by criminal acts, like in America or by pure majority which in a few more years could be a problem for America. muslims in Japan can never be a citizen, vote, or be any part of the political system, and have to leave every six months…….and that is exactly what America needs to do

Blasphemous fool – without Christianity we would still be in the dark ages, Christians are the founders and supporters of higher education and the health care system. They provide with out asking your faith or lack there of. They provide more healthcare and education than any other organization or government in the world – and the kicker is they do it with an efficiency that is not only envied but threatens our modern GUBMENTS. Why you may ask? Because they are not for sale, they sacrifice themselves for the betterment of society, they do not want nor receive GUBMENT hand outs and stick mostly to a time tested way of doing things. Lastly their charitable organizations operate on a 5% overhead. Go find out what red cross or any other “charitable” organization works on. There is no conspricry – its a fact that its under attack, for no other reason that it threatens the system of liberal self enrichment in the name of providing for the people. The major difference between GUBMENT and Christianity. Christian leaders are required to take a vow of poverty, government leaders are now all about themselves first then the crumbs fall to the peons.

OK. so let’s do away with religion, in particular Christianity, and where would society be? Religion, and its’ dictates, are what enables a society to police itself. You cannot possibly hire enough policemen to handle a society without God. The Ten Commandments, if adhered to, has made western culture the most prosperous and peaceful of any culture in history- founded on Christianity too. I know that must really tick you off but it’s the truth. Fact…..But I digress. Let’s do away with the teachings of Christ and where would we be? Anything goes. Chaos in all that is done. Ruled by corrupt politicians with no equality under the law. Finally, to bring order there is instituted a police state and thus, Naziism, communism, socialism. Or, in short, the modern Democrat party. I guess you would like that.

And please don’t give me that crap about the Muslims today. Whatever Mohammed taught was not what Islamic extremists are carrying just as Jesus never said someone should go out and bomb an abortion clinic. I’m not a Muslim but I do respect the Sufi tradition which is Muslim. Look it up

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

The other thing that bothers me. If you are a Christian then just live the tenants and lead by example not by judgement or criticism. You cannot force your beliefs on someone. If you don’t believe in Gay marriage, abortion, etc, then fine, live it but why do so many Christians feel they have to impose their belief system on everyone else? If it’s what you believe, then great, live it everyday and be a shining example of that religion and truly practice what Jesus taught and you would probably get more people interested

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

And also, I read the post here. So much hate mongering. Liberals, non-believers. You guys have a label for everything. The bottom line is that liberal, conservative, Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist we are all on this sinking ship together and something must be done. Whether you believe that climate change(global warming) is real or not, take into account that it’s not just climate change we’re dealing with here, It’s the fact that all of nature is bound by certain laws which through our cleverness, or should I say short-sidedness we have managed to circumvent those laws of nature that govern all species. Global warming is the least of our worries. Overfishing of the oceans, worldwide pollution, overpopulation, destruction of eco systems, extinction of plant and animal species at a rate of 12 to 14 per day which has devastating consequences. Without biodiversity it insures our extinction. Not enough species to close the gap in case of some sort of ecological/biological disaster. If you believe so strongly in Jesus and in God, then shouldn’t we be doing a better job of taking care of our own home that GOD provided for us? In the end, what will finally bring us together is the will to survive since we have pretty much ruined everything in just the past 100 years and now face a real crisis and GOD will not get us out of this since we created the problem to begin with. It will be up to us to overcome our differences and come together to save ourselves because if we leave to big business and government to solve the problems then forget about it, we are all going over the cliff

Pro abortion and NARAL want my tax $$ to pay Planned Parenthood for abortions that I don’t believe in. That’s what is called ramming down my throat. NAMBLA and most of the Pro Gay marriage crowd want to force the teaching of their sick sexual desires, lifestyles and beliefs to my young children as normal, when I don’t think it is normal at all and I don’t want my kids taught that its normal. That is called ramming their beliefs down my throat and my families’ and still they use my tax $$ to promote the agenda I don’t believe in. Its not ok with me to hand out condoms bought with my tax $$ at the schools that my money goes to fund, corrupting children from families with Christian values, yet Christian people are not permitted to hand out bibles and crosses, or have group prayers. Suppose a Christian teacher or school nurse wanted to share the Gospel with some non believers? The double standards used to betray the rights of Christians while having the lifestyles of Sodom and Gomorrah forced down our throats and corrupting our lives and the lives of our children, all while using our very tax $$ too!!!! Come on Janet Gunn! Stop insulting people’s intelligence!! You just got caught in a BIG LIE!

Let me suggest that you do a little more research.

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

Like I said, we would still have Buddha and Mohammed and the teachings of the Old Testament and the 10 Commandments. Not enough? I love the way you trivialize other religions as it they have no moral compass what so ever

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

By the way do you even know what Buddha or Mohammed had to say or even the teachings of the Hindu religion.Interestingly enough they pretty much all teach the same thing with love and compassion as the cornerstone. I would guess you’re one who really is stuck on one religion and has very little knowledge of the others. Do you even know what a Sufi is? Probably not. You’re like the kid who hates a certain food but never tried it. You seem to have pretty strong opinions about religion without ever gaining real understanding of the others

          • http://twitter.com/hihosilva Love My Freedom

Janet Gunn you obviously have no concept of religious conviction or faith You obviously think that faith and religion should be sampled like a poo poo platter of appetizers, or maybe tried on and off like a pair of jeans. It is embarrassing for you to question other people’s knowledge and understanding of the cornerstones of faith, while suggesting people who are, QUOTE “stuck on one religion”, can not have the understanding that you have of all religions. How many degrees have you earned studying the theocracies of the world? It is sad for you not to have any convictions of your own to stabilize you. Because your foundations are built on sand rather than solid rock, you can’t possibly understand true faith. If you ever come to that understanding you will know that the teachings and beliefs of faith other than your own is unimportant.

          • NormanRockwellAmerican

Jesus Christ is the God of the Old Testament. By God’s common grace, other ideas and philosophies can have elements of morality, however, Christianity is the only Way by which God saves us. As Jesus said, “I Am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.”
And as C.S. Lewis said, “Jesus Christ is either liar, lunatic, or Lord.” Since liar and lunatic don’t fit, I’ll take Him as Lord.
May you discover the truth, and be set free.

          • Kay Baker

I think we’ve already reached that point.

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

You would still have the teachings of Buddha which came 600 years before Christ. Seems to me that since Christ lived in the Middle East he must have come across the teachings of Buddha. In fact, evidence does support that. In India the legend of Christ the Nazarene is widespread. There was proof that he taught at a Ashram in India but the sacred text were stolen in the late 1800′s. Who would have benefited from those text disappearing? If you know anything about the history of Christianity then you know it had little to do with the truth and that the Son of God was not that to many Christians before 325 AD but Jesus’ standing as we know it today was decided by the most powerful Christian leaders at that time in order to preserve their position and power. We talking about a Church that ruled for the next 1000 years with an iron fist and was no better than the pagan ruler it replaced,

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

The entire Christian religion as we know it today was not spread throughout the world through love, peace and compassion as Jesus taught but at the end of a sword, convert or die was the chant of the time. Even when Protestantism was gaining momentum how did the Church react? Again, convert or die. Not wanting to lose it’s position and power. WOW, even against other Christians who protested the Catholic Church they were killed. The Gnostics were also killed and their books made illegal because they challenged the authority of the Church which by 185 AD had already had a hierarchy of Priest, Cardinals and Bishops. Before 325,Christianity was very diverse with many different beliefs and a lot of infighting. Jesus to some was the Son of God, to others Spirit and to others like the Gnostics, just a man who discovered his own divine nature. The Gnostics were especially hated. If fact, the only reason we knew Gnosticism even existed was through the rantings of a higher up in the Church named Irenaeus who was one of the architects in standardizing the Bible and he made sure none of the Gnostic teachings or books got into the Bible as we know it today. He hated the Gnostics with a fervor that came though in his writings mainly because the Gnostic teachings empowered women because it included them and taught that they too could become like Jesus, that we all could become like Jesus by discovering our own devine nature. If fact, in the Gnostic teachings, which is also found in the Bible today, is the quote that we are all the son’s and daughters of God and we will do greater things than he. The books were so revered by the Monks of the time that even though it meant imprisonment or death they hid the books. The first glimpse of the Gnostic teachings came in the 60′s when they were found in a grave buried with a Monk and gave us glimpse of a form of Christianity that paralleled Eastern Mysticism. What was in those books that the Christian leaders of the time wanted to suppress? Anytime you have suppression of information like that then it’s probably a good indication that it had more truth in it than what came to dominate. The biggest argument from Christian leaders is that the Gnostic text were written in Coptic which came 300 years after Christ so they are not as relevant as the Chapters of the New Testament which came around 75 years after his death and most (New Testament Gospels) translated to Greek from Hebrew. But the Gnostic Gospels were translated into Coptic from the original Greek text which were written around the same time as the New Testament Gospels but most Christian leaders will not acknowledge that. So, if Gnosticism had survived then we would have had a form of Christianity that closely resembles Buddhism in many ways giving further weight to the theory that Jesus in those missing years in the Bible actually ended up in India.

Really, you don’t think that Jews (which by the way is where Christians got the Ten Commandments)Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims which include Sufis, or even Atheist can’t have some sort of moral compass? I think many indigenous peoples were doing just fine and not hurting anyone but certainly suffered greatly under Christian rule. Like I said before, Christianity didn’t spread all around the world because of Jesus’ teachings, it was at the end of a sword. Columbus even noted in his logs how happy the Taino people were. He so struck by it that he had to write about it and also went on to say the were totally incapable of deceit. How wonderful a concept that would be in such a cynical world but he went on to write that he could completely subjugate them with 50 good men. He also thought he could convert them to Christianity but was stymied by the fact that he couldn’t. You don’t think we could have learned something from these people? Instead they were wiped from the face of the planet. So they were the savages without Jesus’ teachings? What you claiming isn’t so true. The glue that held Western Society together truly wasn’t Jesus’ teachings but the fear of the sword itself and the brutality of the Church

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

You mention that Ten Commandments lent itself to a peaceful and prosperous West. What are you smoking? Do you know how many years of peace this country has actually had in it’s short 237 years just around 32 years, we’ve been engaged in one conflict or another for over 200 years of our existence, It’s brought us peace?

          • http://www.facebook.com/janet.gunn.90 Janet Gunn

WOW, from the Revolutionary war, to war of 1812, to war with American Indians, Civil War, Spanish American War, WWl, WWll, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, then skirmishes in Grenada, Panama and other parts of Central America, South America, Cuba, the list goes on and on. It brought us peace?

            You do have a religion.
Your leftist professors are your priests.

The only difference is the leftist religion ruins society. Christ’s religion built modernity: the place where people won’t kill you like Muslims would for your ridiculous statements.

Scott, is it possible that people have no desire to have a relationship with God — and I don’t mean Allah — or hate God or have lost their desire to have such relationship?

Or is it possible that the continual barrage of politically correct anti-Christian attitudes have turned people away from and/or against the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, including God the Son Jesus the Christ?

BTW: If by clergy, you mean Catholic priests, say so. If those of other Christian denominations, say so.

But they trust a self-absorbed actor or TV star whose job is always to lie to make us believe they are someone else? Did only ultra lefties vote?

      • AugustineThomas

But they trust actors and worthless celebrities who make a living by corrupting our youth into ruining their lives being obsessed with sex?

More young celebrities are molested by Hollywood producers than were ever abused in the Catholic Church.

If people trust immoral secularists over the clergy because they have heard a story of bad clergy somewhere, then people are stupid and this is why our country is failing!

Readers Digest is perfect for the low-information senior citizens. Short easy to understand stories and articles that make them think they are smart because they read.

I’m a conservative very-high-information senior citizen — and I read RD regularly, as I do other print and on-line pubs and articles from the same.

That RD’s stories are short and easy to read implies reader-friendly editorial decisions.

I suspect you know nothing about the publishing business.

Nor that there’s usable information everywhere, if you but have the curiosity to find it, eyes to see it and mind to understand it.

Left-wingers are most deceptive. They also are no-info voters. Thus, they allow the left-stream media, Hollywood and idiots to tell them what to think.

    • dontcare4uatall

The top 6 ARE PAID TO LIE!(actors)……………..yet, we trust them….lol

    • Steve Cooper

I don’t trust the clergy either and I’m a Christian. I watch the “pastors” on TV and turn red with embarrassment. Most are money hungry widow swindlers and ridiculous clowns, as are a great number in neighborhood churches. The church system is twisted, where one man builds his little kingdom and tickles the ears of his congregation so they keep coming back. Christianity was born hard and it is only alive when it’s lived hard. The “organic” church movement is much closer to this.

    • Bart

Uhm, when did clergy exclude Rabbis? Arthur Schneier is #48. Chritstian centric much?

    • Liberty_Jane

When Hanks was preparing to do Band of Brothers he called a WWII hero of the 502, a friend of my husband, who has written several books on his time in Europe. After talking to him for about four hours a day for a week, the hero asked, “What am I getting out of this?” Hanks said, “You’re name will be in the credits.” The hero replies, “It would look better on a check.” Hanks then proceeds to hang up on him. Couldn’t stand the guy since hearing that and I’ll never contribute to his income again. Scum.

He also asked for his 250 or 500 dollar donation back from the Clinton campaign after Monica Gate broke. They promptly told him here’s your money back. At which point he apologized and said that’s ok. They gave it back anyway. I guess he thought a very few hundred bucks was a massive amount of money. He also flys chartered jets cause people bother him said his agent. I don’t know what people do that are famous yet not wealthy enough for private jets going everywhere, like say Emmet Walsh or Cliff Clavin. They probably suck it up and say hello to people that recognize them instead of being an out of touch snob.

  • tacomatuttle

from the obscure people on the list, I am tempted to believe the poll provided a list with an accompanying bio’s and simply asked people to rank those on the list. The idea that a random grouping of 1000 people would all know those highly ranked on such a list, doesn’t pass the smell test

  • Katherine McChesney

This poll is a joke. Carter is the second worst president in the history of the U.S. He’s also an anti-Semite and a Muslim sympathizer. He’s ‘in bed’ with the Saudis. That pretty much says it all, doesn’t it? THAT is how a Kommunist from Kenya gets into the White House!!!

    Almost all flaming liberals!

  • ChuckBriggs

This is nothing but liberal B.S.

  • gordon bloyer

Most people wouldn’t know who most of these people are. What a joke. Nobody knows Ruth Ginsberg or Noam Chompsky.

  • One_American

    Utter stupidity.

  • Eduardo

I thought April Fools was in April.

  • Guest

Yeah, like I’m going to click through 100 pages to see all of them!!

  • kestrel27

No doubt that those that read “Readers digest” are the same one’s that feel the New York Times is the (state controlled) newspaper of record. C’mon, Tom Hanks…#1…Really???

  • The Contrarian

#1 The Press, including Readers Digest for their impartiality. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • leestauf

This was nothing more than a name recognition survey. I wasted a minute of my life looking at it.

  • SuYu

    How dumb.

  • Seabass120

Chomsky at #19? We’re in much more trouble than I thought.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1508364045 Robert Conrrad

This is a joke!! You have to be living out of the planet to believe this crap. This survey, was probably conducted among Ovomit voters.

  • 10poundBrain

What they do not reveal is that this poll took place and an idiot festival.

  • FredZarguna

And now we know why Reader’s Digest has plummeted from its once lofty position as most-read publication in the world, to barely barely hanging on with life support from doctors, dentists, and chiropractors’ offices…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steve-Holman/1045793952 Steve Holman

What were the criteria again? That was pathetic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gary.kissick.9 Gary Kissick

This article lacks honesty and is slanted so left that it’s going to fall off the page.

    Nice “Comedy Piece”..

  • Mal Function

And this is how people vote? No wonder the country is what it is.

  • porkexpress

Wow, Hollywood Liberals are to be trusted more than others. I wonder where most of the votes came from, Soro’s ballot machines maybe.

  • NotKennedy

Uh huh. Well, it helps to keep Readers Digest in context as the bankrupt, liberal abomination of what USED to be a pretty good magazine, 30 years ago. I guess having all of those Kennedy’s in the neighborhood took its toll on everyone else, too.
For that matter, Nat’l Geo used to have some integrity, until they go into the entertainment business. Now, they have a lovely facility and are fashionably well connected inside the beltway. A real DC establishment operation.

    • Kate Craig

I use to take both. Liberalism ruins everything it touches.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.mayr.94 Michael Mayr

This must be a joke – the fact that the first few are actors proves WE. ARE. IN. BIG. TROUBLE. Actors get paid to become someone else, Duh!

  • Jim

Almost all liberals. Sorry but your list is obviously bogus and one sided. Come on! Movie stars and media? Really? What a joke you are Readers Digest.

    • Kate Craig

Reader’s Digest became liberal a long time ago. I use to take it, but haven’t for years.

  • Glass Thinker

    Moochelle? Seriously? Hahahahahaha…….

  • Will (ishigum)

Lol I didn’t even look at the list but I can who is there based on the comments. I hope Ron Paul is on the list though.

  • Propaganda

This is Propaganda. 80% of the people on list are Marxists, 19% Communist, 1% conservative. WAKE UP AMERICA. YOU ARE BEING ENSLAVED!

  • Glass Thinker

The poll probably took place at the hush hush secret post-inauguration shindig put on by Barry and Moochie for all the “beautiful people”.

  • Pammie

This is a joke, right? What a crock!
I have absolutely no respect for any of these top ten folks, with the possible exception of Sandra Bullock.

  • disqus_dGtNp5hoHk

Actors, “professional hypocrites”, get paid to be something you are not. Telling on who picked them!

  • Pammie

…and maybe Denzel. That’s about it.

  • porkexpress

I did not see Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, or Bugs Bunny on the list. Could this be a Liberal mistake?

  • alanwillingham

A guy who gets paid to pretend to be somebody else rather than himself?

  • JW

all participants were apparently “low information voters”

  • sonnyboy1

  • conbug

Did they only poll liberals for this poll as Its obvious this is a liberal poll as the low information group of people in this country is showing just how ignorant they really are. AND people wonder including the people polled why America is in the toilet.

  • Bob

Reader’s Digest? More like a crowd that would read Soap Opera Digest.

  • John

This is an insult! Courtenay Smith and Alison Caporimo should be arrested for impersonating journalists.

  • chappaquabill

A poll using 1000 out of 3+million Americans? Where was this poll conducted? The Hamptons? Soho? Brentwood?

A poll you can place your trust in.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

  • Jennifer Stout

They polled 1000 people – huh?? That’s out of 300,000,000 Americans? How is this taken seriously??

That’s like flipping a coin twice, getting heads twice and ruling out the possibility of tails ever being possible.

I cannot believe that people get paid money to run these surveys and report the results as if they’re actually valid.

  • Miriam McGrath

    Rediculous list!!

The first 10(as far as I got with this) all actors who pretend for a living. This is who America trusts- Wow!! Scary

  • TWF

Tom Hanks at #1? The hateful bigot?

  • saduslover

This list is very revealing…about US! The very fact that we are even willing to rate actors and celebrities on the character trait of “trust”, as though we honestly know these people, is absolutely silly!! These are ACTORS…who, by definition, have made a career out of pretending to be somebody else! It is impossible for us to know anything about what kind of people they actually are, including how trustworthy they are!

Come on people! Wake up! Get off the couch, turn off the TV, and try actually exposing yourself to real life!

    Geez!

  • DorothyPalmer

Noam Chomsky one of America’s most trusted? How bloody stupid have the morons in America actually become?

  • joshmoe

Tom Hanks? Seriously? My friend worked for him at one point and said he treated his kids very poorly – which is just disappointing… but its funny that so many celebrities are on the ‘most trusted’ list.

    • Beedogs

Plus Hanks blew Barry Obama. Twice.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lawrence.wach Lawrence Wach

Seriously? Hillary Clinton? Look up how many people have lost their lives around her and her steaming pile husband. Arkansas “suicides” moved to Washington, D.C. when they came there. Bill and Melinda Gates? Really? Do you know how EVIL those two are? Vaccines that kill in Africa? How about the top secret heirloom seed vault you funded? Broke And Mooch-elle Owe-Bomb-Ya? I need a barf bag. Where is Billy Graham on the list, I didn’t make it through the sixtieth person.

  • Trevor (@tjexcite)

#65 it should be off the list in at 210 no higher.

  • dabbobean

It’s more like the top 100 recognizable names……most Americans no very little of the world outside of their self-constructed bubbles……but at least there are no politicians in the top 20, nobody is that gullible.

  • RB

Notice most of the top spots go to actors, who are by definition liars. A big chunk of our minds, no matter how much we “know” movies an TV are just illusions, must really still think they are in some sense real.

    • Kate Craig

Actually Julia Roberts said Republicans were between repugnant and repulsive in the dictionary. I don’t go to her movies. She acts the same in everyone of them. She has such a big mouth she has become a caricature of herself.

  • Tina Ferrer

Which is precisely why I’m the first of 4 generations not to purchase this kind of crap. Tom Hanks huh? You folks need a little current events refresher.

  • JP

Seriously? Bill and Melinda Gates in the top 10… This is the guy who stole his big ideas from other people to get rich. He now uses his money to sterilize ‘lesser’ populations via polio vaccines. Melinda is just a wallflower along for the ride.

    Puhleaze!

  • Beedogs

Looks like only left wingers were allowed to vote.

  • Luxomni

Bill Gates, seventh most trusted? He would make the top of my “Least Trusted” list. Right over top of Bernie Madoff.

  • DONKEY LIBERAL

Don’t worry, they gave up trying to stop the anti-lib/RD posts. Perhaps they thought only brainless libtards would look at their poll. Even the few libtards reading it are ashamed to defend the list! lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/clem.kadoodlehopper Clem Kadoodlehopper

Try to look up “The Wagner Group” for polling. Try to find the actual poll. What the heck happened to Readers Digest? I trust none of these people. Of course my brain may be one of the few functional ones in the nation, but I find that extremely unlikely. Seriously, “Tom Hanks”? You would trust Tom Hanks? The guy who was found in black face makeup like 2 years ago or something like that at his kids school. Keep on proving what I always tell my kids. “You can never go wrong betting that people are going to do something stupid!”

  • Robert James

Tom Hanks? According to who? satan?

  • Twann9852

When do you think the Wagner polling group called the editor and said” we’ve got a big problem…..this list makes your readers look like morons”

  • http://twitter.com/mo2giv John Sheridan

The poll confirms one thing I have suspected in recent years: the dumbing down of America is complete. The public education establishment (teachers union) has succeeded beyond its wildest dreams. America is now dumber than a box rocks.

Tom Hanks? Says Who? That guy in hades and his minions?

  • KyawGyiKwa

Who the heck are you polling?

  • BFCA

These results are total bull s**t!! You notice how the fox host was the very last.
Nonetheless, anyone who took the time to participate in this poll is a total moron. Nobody! I mean nobody! trusts any of the supreme court justices! I guess I should count myself as a moron for even looking at the results. Such a wast of time. ggrrrr.

  • E. Anders

I just cancelled my subscription to this magazine. This has become a progressive safe haven. Not in my home any longer.

  • henrirt

Yes Hanks can be most trusted…to be a stinking liberal Obama lover and America hater.

  • Ted Graham

number 8 needs to go off the list completely.

  • Ted Graham

I meant number 7 Bill Gates. My bad.

  • BFCA

Readers digest is probably pissed that this made it on drudge. Yes, more people will read this article, but all the comments will be critical (but accurate).

  • Kate Craig

I stopped taking Reader’s Digest years ago when I noticed how liberal it was becoming. This list is laughable if it weren’t so tragic. Shows how completely stupid and/or ignorant so many people are now. I remember when people like Billy Graham made the top ten lists.

  • neverfooled

Many of the folks on this list would appear on my least trusted list.

Folks trust movie stars? On what basis? Do you know of them personally?

I’m not sure which is the bigger joke, the poll or the folks answering the poll.

My most trust-able list wouldn’t include anyone I don’t personally know.

Didn’t your mothers teach you better than that?

  • Americaall

D ammmm, now wonder this country is messed up,, look at who we trust,,, movie actors? Obama/s?, stephkisssoplous,, at one time I did respect Diane Sawyer,, but not since she became an anchor,,,now she’s just another part of a broken record,, Whooooopie? Wow we are on the wrong track

  • http://www.facebook.com/alan.dryer Alan Dryer

Tom Hanks is a nice guy, but he’s a DIM/Lib TOOL. By definition, that’s completely untrustworthy, even simply, if due to being blind as a bat, to reality, because he lives in his celebrity bubble. WOW, this country has gone off the deep end.

  • Edward A. Allen

I haven’t seen so many libs in one place since the Dem National Convention.

  • Edward A. Allen

Clint Eastwood is at 13 and there are a bunch of DIM/Libs at the top. Now, I think this poll is “untrustworthy”. Maybe not. maybe this mental infants, of this country, really has been retarded to this level, at these numbers. The village idiots appear to have gained the upper hand.

This is pure propaganda. Liberal scum can never be trusted and the list is 80% liberals. Puke on you Reader’s Digest. You have reached a new low.

Tom Hanks (a/k/a Forrest Gump) is the most trusted guy in America – and also the Hollywood liberal who said America’s involvement in World War II was motivated by racism. Apparently, he was sick on the day his history class studied the attack on Pearl Harbor.

A monkey could have picked more wisely. RD has just lost any credibility they ever had. Really, Tom Hanks??? Most trusted??? A libby actor??? Now that’s funny!

  • celebritardo

This celebrity worship in this country has been and will be the death of us. All morality flushed down the toilet, idolizing (for the most part) completely terrible narcissistic examples of human beings.

  • Logical1

Stick a fork in the Reader’s Digest, it’s done. Whomever these 1,000 American’s were, they must have been the ‘Low Information’ voters that put Obama back in office. Tom Hanks is the most trusted person in America? A lefty movie actor who makes his living impersonating other people is to be trusted? He may be a nice guy, but the most trusted? If this poll does in fact represent a cross section of the American public (which I doubt), then we as a country are in serious trouble.

Along with this gaggle of Hollyweird types, I don’t trust Bill Gates either.

  • Floyd

I see Liberal leanings on Readers Digest. Polls are Liberal Medias and Liberal Politicians best freind. Polls can be shaped and picked to sway the mind of their constituants to misinform the public and pass unjust oppressive laws. Is there such a thing as an honest poll?

    • Logical1

No, there isn’t. As Mark Twain once said “Figures don’t lie, but liars can figure.” There are more ways to distort a poll than there are fleas on a stray dog’s back.

  • atillathehunney

Tom Hanks? Now I know it’s all a ruse. The poll was taken by Reader’s Digest readers, All suffering from Alzhiemers and Dementia.

  • CCBanks

Seriously??? The CRETIN who with fellow turd Ron Howard tried to destroy the world’s faith in JESUS CHRIST through their LIES is the “most trusted”?????? Well, if the election of Obama didn’t prove that America is full of RETARDS, this surely does it!

This is the liberals fake list – what a joke.

They probably polled 1,000 “Americans” at home in the middle of the day.

    Guess how that sample skewed…

And based on the obscurity of a lot of the names in the Top 20 they had to provide a pre-selected list; no way 1,000 randomly picked Americans wold know these scientists.

  • Brian Astby

The racist poet is #5. Nuff said.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Richard-Barton/1473182136 Richard Barton

A sad commentary on the state of America! A population of 311,591,917 million, and probably 20 million illegals, but only 1,000 polled. Must have been Californians!

  • Brian Astby

We are my friends in the beginnings of our Idiocracy.

  • aberdeenvet

As with most entertainers, I would not trust Hanks as far as I could throw him, or a doll in his image.

  • BoDeen

I only got through the top(?) fifty. WE ARE DOOMED!! No wonder Obama was re-elected. The American people trust a bunch of morons who would not know the truth if it slapped them. Most of the top ten are actors. ACTORS!
    GOD HELP US, PLEASE!!

This poll was without the slightest doubt heavily focused on a liberal, left wing slice of The People’s Republic of California.
“Progressives in a society are like the mindless cells of human cancer – they invade, attack, weaken, and finally destroy the ‘host’, and in turn they destroy themselves”.

An actor is someone that pretends to be someone else. Sounds like a great character to put your trust in.

    Dumb list.

  • anne

How can you trust someone who’s living is to act? How do you know they aren’t acting now

  • June

This does it. When an actor is No. 1 that means only one thing: our once-proud country is lost! I got a good laugh at some of the people on the list. Did they REALLY get this information from a survey? Or from a comedian?

  • Twoiron

Low-information voters loved Hanks when he was Forrest “Gomer” Gump.

Frankly, I liked him best when he was stuck on an island in the middle of the ocean with a volleyball.

  • dapcat

A poll by low information reporters for low information voters. I’m actually surprised Homer Simpson isn’t listed number one with Mickey Mouse number two.

  • Joey

I see only 2 people out of the 101 listed that I would ever trust, First one being Noam Chomsky and Andrew Weil, all the other’s seem to have some tie or direct tie to globalist corruptive nature based on, yes, LIES.

Those polled had to pick from a list of 200 names that Reader’s Digest handpicked (an important detail conveniently left out of the description above…hmmm). Judging by the ridiculous amount of liberals who showed up on the final list, all RD has done in my opinion is to earn the title of Least Trusted Magazine in America.

sad that people put trust in a group that plays make believe for a living. I get that people want to check out from reality for a bit and watch these people dance around in front of a camera. I wouldn’t trust them though.

  • George

Interesting list! It says lots about our society when the largest percentage of the top 100 were actors and television characters. It seems RD went out of their to select brainless followers and the liberal left. 320 million people in the US and they make a big deal out of what 1000+ people say. They must have used their entire staff as the sample. My first thought was, what it says about our society when it should have been how dumb can RD editors be. I wonder what their confidence level is or if they even know what it is.

  • Deiconik

This list is horrible.. I respectfully disagree on many. It is a testament to the sad fact that entertainment has formed our mentality. Judge Judy? Really? Tony Dungy, he promotes being a good father and man. Something that all sides can agree are in short demand. That is a mission that has no political agenda. No special interest, other than being what your family needs.

Wow! Americans are truly a retarded lot. The list is a mix of monsters, TV and movie personalities, and some truly slimy politicians. Where is the methodology information for this poll I can’t seem to find it.
Was it truly a poll of “1,000+ Americans”, or a poll of 1000+ American Reader’s Digest readers? If it was the latter you need to point that out. Polling your reader’s is NOT polling Americans. Your readers are likely to express the attitudes reflected in your magazine. I highly doubt a poll of average Americans would turn up Chemists in the Top 15 and Noam Chomsky in the top 20. Did Reader’s Digest do a glowing story about them before the polling was done? If you are misrepresenting your poll maybe we shouldn’t trust RD or its poll.

  • boldtruth11

Stupid poll or stupid people. Your only choice or both. These look like people lawyers would select for your average jury. Gullible, malleable, and about as shallow as a petri dish.

What it doesn’t tell you here is that Reader’s Digest gave people a list of 200 names that had been chosen by the nimrods at Reader’s Digest, and then the 1,000 people being “polled” had to choose 100 from that stupid and insanely skewed list of 200. So this is not really a poll that shows who Americans trust, it’s a poll that shows who Reader’s Digest thinks they should trust! Bogus! Bogus! Bogus!

  • glenn47

Where ever did you get these people? You are telling us that 7 out of 10 have such a disdain for half of their base are to be considered trustworthy? The list has to be a joke.

  • ViVictaVis

You have, in this poll, the explanation for how and why Obama won these last elections. THE MOST TRUSTED people in America are simply those the Media chooses to display the most often. Simple correlation here; your on TV = you are trusted. AND we are all BUSTED, fellow citizens. There are a few exceptions in the top of this list, but you have to dig, dig, dig, to find real people, of real significance, of actual worth.

WE TRUST HOLLYWOOD! There you are…AND that is why, last night, the Obama’s hosted yet another star studded gala at the White House. That is why this president is the ‘Entertainer in Chief.’ He is many things and stupid is not one of them.

Only 4 of the top ten are known as “real people”, 6 are known for pretending to be people. What have we come to? Pop culture has supplanted real life. Spent over an hour & a half reading most all the posts. Couldn’t help myself. They are great!

Only thing I am sorry about is how true to life the posts are. Very sad!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1428744726 James Williams

You suckered me into thinking this list was legit until I saw that weasel Colin Powell.

  • HarryCanyon

Stupidity of that magnitude explains why Obama was reelected.
Education via the liberal media is more destructive than the atom bomb.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steve-Beinart/100000553894812 Steve Beinart

An actor? Really? Actor’s are trained liars. And there’s no difference between any actor and Miss Piggy or Kermit the Frog. They all mouth convincingly the words written by people smarter than them.

  • faustinaagatha

An actor? The #1 trusted person is an actor? Either RD has a sorry readership or our country is in a very sorry state that people turn to the entertainment world for heroes.

  • MissSterious

I could only stomach 24. We are in real trouble!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steve-Beinart/100000553894812 Steve Beinart

OMG. First four are actors (trained liars). Then a half-assed leftist poet. Then a self-hating Jewish director. Then more actors and a game show host.

    • acumenmac

In that respect it really reveals how far we have fallen as a nation. Truth stings at times.

  • Someone who thinks

Wait, wait, wait. We’re asking just “over 1,000″ people to come up with a list of the top 100. As sad as this poll is, I have to question its methodology.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000295536850 Audrey Stricker

Bunch of very low information people polled.

  • BenC

I knew this article was BS when I saw Michelle O and Jimmy Carter on the list.

    • http://twitter.com/candylick21 asia carter

WHERE IS GEORGE BUSH OH WAIT HE NOT ON THERE CAUSE NOTHING BUT HALF BRAIN MONKEY WOULD VOTE FOR HIM LIKE YOUR SELF FOR EXAMPLE.

  • patriot

Just more proof that these idiots live in fantasyland, just like our stupid politicians in Washington.

  • eeddggy

I trust Hanks to constantly pander to low information Democrat voters that will view his movies. Other than that, I don’t trust anything out of his mouth.

  • http://www.facebook.com/deborah.soutar Deborah Soutar

I wouldn’t trust Tom Hanks to walk my dog. He keeps his beliefs to himself because he’s smart enough to know that they’ll impact on the bottom line. So since I don’t know his agenda, I don’t trust him.

  • D.R. Daily

Media hype run amuck? They really are digging their own graves propping themselves up for adulation by all. Hollywood is the black eye on American values, unfortunately the rest of the world only gets their version. Fly over country has to just grin and bear it.

  • Jack Bauer

There’s really no hope for a people that have become this brain dead….

    Bye bye America !

  • Rickster

These are the people “we” trust? Geeeez! Forget the religious aspect. We have larger issue based on the list itself.

  • seanster5977

Readers Digest, really. That was a small and great light read from the 70′s. Who would be your audience if you are doing a Reader’s Digest poll? Not buying it.

  • http://twitter.com/Skeptic2 The Skeptic

If Tom Hanks leads this poll the poll is obvious flawed

  • TroyGale

You see, this is why America is in decline.
Our heroes used to be people who had accomplished something meaningful or relevant to the country or society.
Actors and Musicians are hardly role models, they are most often self centered, poorly educated, and have no understanding of the common life most of us lead.
Trust, what can it possibly mean to these idiots who picked this list? You can know someone for years and learn to trust them, with reason justified by experience. How can any fool watch Tom Hanks, or any of the people on this list and say they trust them, or that they are trustworthy?
The average American is today childish, selfish, and self absorbed.
They would do well to consider that children, and the very aged amongst us are the easiest to dupe or take advantage of.

  • jmy300

    this list perfectly illustrates why

This list perfectly illustrates how BHO was elected president. The american people are clueless when it comes to understanding what is important, and worth knowing, and what is not important, and not worth knowing. Looks like the democrat party has a bright (if short) future.

  • Bill

I wouldn’t trust most of these people. I’d go with Sandra Bullock. Tom Hanks is really naive and, frankly, off-base on a lot of issues. Clarence Thomas is really smart, articulate and doesn’t BS. He’d be my pick for #1. A lot of folks seem to be pleasant people, but I wouldn’t trust them.

  • Tyrone

I would not have disagreed with Hanks being ranked high (not #1) until he backed Obama and got tangled up with weird Dan Brown in folm making. Like him as an actor, but now I don’t trust Tom’s judgement very much….
Denzel Washington, Sandra Bullock and Clint Eastwood are all Hollywood solids!

  • William

Mostly shocking, extrordinarily PC and highly politicized. Readers Digest should be ashamed not to realize that the dye is cast once you select and team up with a consultant like they did. What foolishness. Had to quit at 30, Stomach couldn’t take any more of it.

  • Thomas Overley

Seriously if this many of the top 10 are Actors we need help America. They are Actors and nothing else

  • dougtheavenger

Tom Hanks is a bigot. Bill Gates lobbies congress to get indentured laborers for his 2nd rate software company. Sandra Bullock has a mental disorder.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001240142228 Sandalwood Wood

Apparently people don’t know the meaning of trust anymore.

  • u2u2u2

After the Leftist actors, this list was heavy on daytime TV personalities, the people I never watch because I work for a living. In other words, the people who voted for this list are the people who hang around the house all day while I support them with my labor and tax money.

  • IdgaradLyracant

The results tell me one thing: Too many people watch TV.

  • Chris

This is a very sad statement on our society. This clearly shows how our current lot of politicians came to office. The vast majority of our society are sheep who will follow anyone about anything that just sounds good. Most of these folks are actors or have talk shows!! So sad…

  • William

    OOPs. Mean’t die is cast.

  • John Hazelwood

This is SO friggin bogus. You want me to believe that these people picked Nobel Prize winners when most couldn’t tell you who the Vice President is. I can understand the recognition with the Hollywood crowd but please Regina Benjamin? Go out on the street and ask 1000 people who she is. What a sham!!

  • None of your business

Seriously, do you think I’m going to scroll through 101 screens to read a single article? Looks like RD is more interested in page views than reader satisfaction.

  • HM_Phobe

    #19, #51, #65 – trusted?

  • David

Wow, the first 4 are avowed socialist America haters. So much for this phony poll…

We are in trouble if this is how people think.

  • ralphie44

this is how stupid we are because of television
this is how we are conned and misled like complete imbeciles over and over
people actually trust that talking head they have never met just because he is on their tv, they feel they “know” him better than their neighbor, but all they really know is the crafted image… like the graphics on a cereal box. and that same jeu-box in their living room convinces them not to trust their neighbor, not to talk to him, especially about politics (and they dont – they know more about paris hilton than they do about the guy across the street who has lived there for 5 years)

i despise this jeu world order

  • Tangair

Hanks? Really?? Such a sad comment on our society that the actor cannot be understood from his character roles.

    Time to get real, people….

    • http://www.facebook.com/drewhaywood Andrew D Haywood

      I would trust Sam Waterson.

  • DiscustedONE

Tom Hanks? Ha Ha Ha Ha! You have got to be kiddding….Figures Libral Media. How about Forrest Gump? I would trust him! :)

  • rich

Tom Hanks? My fellow Americans, you scare the hell out of me.

  • POC247

About all this ridiculous poll does is insure that companies will hire these celebrities as shills to sell their products.

  • Tommysmallss

When I saw Michelle Obama at 19, I quit looking because this list is bogus.

  • Hopsaregood

This explains how Obama got elected twice. Scary as hell how the media has presented the uber leftist Hanks, who is a good ACTOR. Yo, Public, he is an actor.

  • http://twitter.com/harmonno98 Tom Harmon

Over abundance of “liberals”??? Give me 101 Tony Dungy’s!!

  • justfedupwithstupidity

Did they conduct the poll on the Red Carpet?

let’s see now, actor actor actor actor actor…..ye godz…..such bold lunacy, how depressing

well then again, Reader’s Digest…..the original “dumbin’ down the material” organization

    it fits.

  • guest

Why on earth are so many actors and actresses on the list? People trust them because they can read someone else’s script? Egad – no wonder this country is in such straits.

  • ssgudz

Good God. Who was polled? Twelve year olds?

    • Liberal Hater

      The stupid among us

  • Good grief

    This is a joke.

  • tateofpa

Really, and I always thought trust was earn, not given? What have most of these people done to earn your trust, played a part in a movie you may have like or trusted? Come on people.

  • gary grady

I am not quite sure if I find “the list” more hilarious or the Reader’s Digest Poll in and of itself. 1000+ people surveyed! That is some powerful poll! I would like to see some demographics on the people surveyed. That would be the truly interesting data.

  • FloridaJim

Tom Hanks is a young Robert Redford a man who has done nothing but fall into a career and made a lot of money. He is ignorant and not a nice person.

  • http://www.facebook.com/drewhaywood Andrew D Haywood

Interesting that at about 11 it switches to Nobel Prize winning chemists. We should throw out the first 10 and start there.

  • tfam1104

This is depressing. Most of these people are just famous and are not known but for who they pretend to be. America it’s been a beautiful ride but it is over.

  • TressShop1

This is Readers Digest; long ago gone over to the other side…

  • Dave Bear

The sole job of an actor is to get you to believe something that isn’t true! What a joke of a survey!

  • Liberal Hater

How stupid of a person do you have to be to say you trust Tom Hanks the most?

  • DJH78745

This is only further proof that the unethical, integrity challenged scum that call themselves journalists are succeeding in dumbing down the population to the point of near idiocy and dependance.

Pretty sad indictment of our culture when a hollytwit is at the top of the ‘trust’ list – very sad.

  • Liberal Hater

Where does Honey Boo Boo fall on the list? I’m too lazy to give a crap to see.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stanton.lore Stanton Lore

I find it frustrating that I cannot see the 100 listed on one page (or two) and must go through one after another forever. I got to #10 and called it quits. Obviously if you trust someone whose job is pretending to be someone else, (acting) you have a serious problem with judging character. Amazing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/anastasia.rominoff Anastasia Rominoff

Apparently the poll was only about name recognition.

  • gary grady

First off Reader’s Digest, the Wagner Group took you for a ride with this poll. We will see how “trustworthy” some are on your list when the truth about Benghazi comes out. Lying politicians and complicit media members have obscured the truth from the American citizens. This says a lot about the people polled.

  • http://www.facebook.com/anastasia.rominoff Anastasia Rominoff

Amazingly Barak Obama is # 65 on the list that favors many famous liberals.

  • darsco

Tom Hanks? He’s an actor you idiots, he’s very good at pretending to be someone he is not.

  • charles

Where was this poll taken? at a hollywood wine and cheese gathering for the local communist party committee ?

  • billrowland

This is pure unadulterated garbage. Out of these 1000 people I doubt 10 would know anyone outside of the hollywood celebrity entries.
The list is stuffed with liberal elites, marxists and their cronies.
I call shenanigans on the whole pile.

  • bullshit

    bullshit

  • davidl1

This only proves that Tom Hanks is most trusted among Readers Digest users. (You know, the same people who are more likely to read supermarket tabloids).

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Jones/100001993248790 Bill Jones

I had to stop rerading the list once it hit Johnny Depp! Are Americans that shallow?
He is an actor. Not sure or who was polled. Sounds like it was distorted with questions like: “who is your favorite TV or movie personality?”

  • janderson4795

    April fools happened last month.

  • janderson4795

The first 10 are liberals so don’t waste your time reading it.

  • fsugrad1710

So you mean to tell me that 1,000 Americans were surveyed and 3 of their top 15 or so most trusted that these respondents came up with were 2 Nobel Prize winning chemists and one Nobel Prize winning economist? Yeah, right. The average American is more likely to be able to tell you all the latest details about Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy than to be able to name a Nobel Prize winning chemist or economist!

  • TU87

Disappointing to see another poll dominated by pop culture. Entertainers are no more trustworthy than politicians. The play the masses as a bunch of fools and it works.

  • joewehner

This poll explains a lot why America is in trouble. People actually trust and look up to the most liberal of all. Once i got to Michele Obama then Jimmy Carter, I had enough and could not look any further. Very sad!

  • AmericanPatriot

What a crock- mostly actors, a truly useless category of human. show a pic of most of the rest of these folks to a person on the street and recognition would be right at .001%. As to the Obama’s far from being ‘respected’ they are loathed and held in contempt by most Americans with an IQ over 100

  • Rick__Lange

    You lost me at #19.

  • Grasshopper

Finally it has been proven by RD that the country is totally lost if Hollywood is whom we trust. How about giving the clergy a break; blame it on the education system. They have no believe in God or anything. God Help Us ALL

  • dee

Wow, Tom Hanks? I am out of touch with my fellow citizens. Now I remember why I stopped reading readers digest back in 86. This list represents how sick and stupid our nation has become, actors are the most trusted, they are actors right? Did you notice they are left wing actors too? My grandparents never missed an issue of this tiny little magazine but they wouldn’t of wasted the time of day on this kind of crap.

  • potvin

Now I understand why your country is in such trouble.

  • griefman

Would you buy a used car from Hanks?

  • Just_Facts

There is something funny about this poll. I don’t believe some of the top vote getters are people most have never even heard of. I hadn’t, and I’m well educated and well informed. Maybe they were given a list of people and their accomplishments from which to choose.

  • dmac1031

lol, the poll must have been 1,000 Califonies
ya Hollywood sorts are really in-touch with main st. America…just lol

  • Renegade Quark

This article pretty much confirms my view that people who read Reader’s Digest are retards.

  • woodfloor

    Garbage

  • honest truth

The fact that 8 of the top 10 work in show business shows how stupid the general public has become and how much we can’t trust them

  • Bawbo

What a bogus and foolish poll! Obviously a poll of the low or uninformed and I am sure wish many leading questions. I bet you could go out on the street and asked a thousand people, of all stripes, who the surgeon general of the U.S. is and NOBODY would know…and she is in the top 25? Madeleine Albright? Jimmy Carter? Chomsky? 2/3 of the top 30 are TV personalities who are seen on regular broadcast (not cable) channels. Speaks to me of inner city folks who can’t afford cable or satellite. You know….Obama supporters. Laughable poll.

  • Viator16

What this tells me is that people that read Reader’s Digest aren’t very smart.

  • DeathTOU863

I find it funny how people can put actors on a list of people they trust considering half of America wouldnt trust them with our tax dollars..

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Walt-Robinson/727381101 Walt Robinson

Wow a 101 page slide show. How about a list?

    No. 20 – Noam Chomsky

    Self described anarchist and Marxist.

Likens America’s conduct to that of Nazi Germany.
Believes that Isreal should not exist.

    • http://diegueno.tumblr.com/ diegueno

Chomsky is an anarchist, not a Marxist – there is a difference between the two.

  • liven-in-iraq

Nos. 1-4 are actors. Entertainers. This is either another “progressive” poll, or is indicative of declining American values.

  • sgb1

This is disgusting. The majority are actors.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-A-DeHart/100003260975568 James A. DeHart

Obviously, they did not poll me, from mainstream America. Any list that has an Obama on it, is flawed from the beginning and doesn’t warrant a second glance.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kate.jovavich Kate Jovavich

I wonder how many of those who voted have seen Tom Hanks ‘blackface skit’ from
    2004?

  • rogern1967

Wow…by reading the title/headline, you wouldn’t think this was a humor piece.

  • Dunnyveg

I don’t believe a word of this. Actors and actresses, hard leftists who make their fame and fortune pretending to be somebody they are not, are the most trusted people? I could see idiots picking these people, but anybody who thinks the extreme liberal Tom Hanks is the most trusted man in America wouldn’t have a clue as to what a Nobel Prize laureate is.

This poll shows just how far Readers Digest has gone down the tubes. It has gone from a trusted information source for average people to a liberal, open borders agitprop publication.

  • glenp827

The mere fact Michelle Obama is on this list al all destroys any credibility it may have otherwise had

  • Endoxa52

How can Tom Hanks be rated over Rev. Graham? Oh the world we live in…an actor, who by his vocation is living a lie, is rated over a man of God. Most at the top are actors…unbelievable. Our sick and confused society has truly gone to the dogs. Beam me up!

Why should I “trust” Tom Hanks. He may be a nice enough person but he is not important to my life.

  • jojo58

Wow, Reader’s Digest must attract the TMZ, low information crowd.

  • belief101

I trust Tom Hanks about as far as I could throw him since he has campaigned hardily for the liar in chief. He also produces a TV show that sacrileges my beliefs. That not only erases any trust in him – but any honor for the man I may have had for him as well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1122094482 Kathie Marie Brave

That list is just plain scary. Shows why this country is in such moral decay. The top ones, and many of them, actors and TV personalities and many far left nuts who have no sense. Should stick to acting and shouldn’t be on the list. Why do so many people TRUST actors and reporter and TV people? I don’t get it and don’t trust most of them. A few good ones on the list coming in far down the list. Tells me what’s wrong with this country. A shame.

  • Gramera

Guess this says everything about our decaying culture of celebrity. Tom Hanks, liberal extraordinaire? Unbelievable.

  • WaitTilNextYear

I prefer survey results to count down from 100 to 1. Builds suspense.

  • Oren

Popular and trustworthy aren’t the same things. Bad list. Too many actors that live a lie and are popular.

I don’t trust Tom Hanks. He’s a bonafide loony liberal who lives in fairyland Hollyweird. His days of suffering are gone. He does not have to worry where his next meal is coming from, paying his mortgage, paying medical bills and he’s living a Cushy Life. He is not a Hero, nor do I trust him. That sweet face is not sweet any longer. I praise him for being successful, but actors get paid way way too much for memorizing lines and spitting em out. They haven’t discovered a cure for cancer, therefore, they don’t deserve those huge Multi-million dollar paychecks.

  • Elmer Fudd

    Whose kidding who???? Elmer Fudd

  • can’t trust polls

Hard to believe that the first four ‘most trusted people’ are actors … who make their living lying. And the ones picked … are all liberal democrats.

  • C Bowman

    I don’t trust this poll

  • Ben Bernanke

Proof America is finished as a nation, there is no saving these zombies from themselves. You think some great scientist, doctor or military hero would be number 1, no an actor is, what a joke. Also who has Paul Krugman on a list of most trusted people, that is the same man who once was quoted as saying an alien invasion would stimulate GDP growth and is a proponent of the trillion dollar coin. Neo Keynesian madness is the main reason we are in another great depression. Generations of public school edumacation have dumbed down the masses, there is no saving the patient known as America. I feel like I am living I the movie the Planet Of The Apes, where all of the humans are lobotomized.

  • zagnut64

Yet more proof of how the country has gone over the cliff. Actors are simply people who pretend to be someone else, nothing more.

  • TheBitterClinger1

Tom Hanks? He overcame polio and won the Vie Nam War, won D Day all by himself and saved Private Ryan-what else? Now I trust MY clergy man; I do not know the rest so why should I trust them to do what? Too much bad TV, too many bad movies shaping too many opinions. Hint: John Wayne did not really defend the Alamo and win WW II all by himself–Audy Murphy helped-but not at the Alamo.

  • David

This list is ridiculous and I don’t think its becuase of Religion. The list is just not believable and had to be skewed in some way.

  • Daniel Broad

most ludicrous idiotic thing I have ever read. ADAM SANDLER! Enough satd.

  • Bill

if these clowns are the most trusted in america, then i know for sure we are done in, the majority of them are democratic sleaze Marxist scumbags.

  • papajack1

I’d like to know the demographics of this poll. The common person would not know about 20% of the people on here. It also appears that this poll results are about 95% to the left and 5 % to the right. I believe the cards were stacked in this poll. So many movie stars, so many of them. All of the movie stars listed are excellent actors, no doubt, but most trusted. There are so many well known people to the left and to the right that would be a more legitimate choice, but evidently not to the 1000 polled. How many women, how many men, political affiliation, age group, education. I just don’t believe it, but that is just my personal opinion, I’m sure there are many more.

  • ruggerdude

#19 is a little high for Michelle Obama. Can’t believe that snake even made the list!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dale-C-Musser/1639142856 Dale C Musser

It’s kind of sick that the top people on the list at all ACTORS… people who make their living by fooling us into believing they are characters other than themselves. It says a lot about American mentality. Why not pick Homer Simpson?… or is he in the list… I didn’t go through them all as I was becoming more and more disillusioned … While these people MAY have good values, they hardly seem to demonstrate on a daily basis the qualities I want place my trust in.

  • sry_morestupedthanIamused_2

I cancelled Reader’s Digest about 10 or 15 years ago when they started putting celebrities on the front cover. The Digest has gone over to the dark side. I put no credence in this poll.

  • bobonnit

What dopes Americans are if they base their trust on false images portrayed by Hollywood and media types. Of course we already know how stupid Americans have become since they elected Obama twice. Tom Hanks is a jerk and I wouldn’t trust him to run a popsicle stand. Maya Angelou ? One of the most over rated persons in modern history. It’s all about image as opposed to accomplishments.

I trust Americans everywhere realize Obama and his admin is anti-Constitutional, anti-Christian, anti-family and anti-American because they ALL work for socialist global interests that have infiltrated American politics! Don’t buy it… or the last election.

  • garden skunk

There is perhaps the reason America is heading down the path to perdition. Many on the list are truly great and grand, all are, in a fashion, good people. But included on the list are a cadre of serial liars, moralistic utopians, and “progressive” social reformers. They are the people who always know what’s best. In a heartbeat, they would sell your God-given rights down the proverbial river in the name of the greater common good. Perhaps those folks are worthy of our respect, but only fools and the American sheeple would trust them. It is time to wake up, folks. and remember Bengazi

    • dee

Readers Digest needed to create intrigue and controversy to sell their magazine. I feel so sorry for those who participated in the poll and quite sure their answers were mostly based on guesses and what they have read from the celebrity tabloids and do not really know why the poll was being conducted. I would like to know how the list was created and the questions that were asked and how the pollsters were selected. Otherwise, thus just another bullshit used by a failing publication to create attention and desperate to increase sales. Sorry but the American people are not that stupid and gullible. In fact Readers Digest should be penalized for stooping thus low.

I think too much is being read into this. I suspect that it is mostly popularity. I can’t imagine that they gave a list to pick from. So if their is a celebrity that you are familiar with and you happen to like them, you will pick them. I am a conservative, but I can see why Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington would rate this high. It is not biased, but I don’t think it shows anything for the most part.

Its pretty sad when most of the “trusted” people on the list are celebrities, and most of them are barely smart enough to tie their own shoes. • The_American_Way

You can put this in the column of more proof that Hollywood, like Washington DC, are out of touch with the American people.

Hollywood people like Hanks live in a bubble and start to think that their “fantasy world” is the REAL world. The other thing that happens to these Hollywood elites is that because they have a huge adoring fan base, they start to think they are smart and all knowing. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I have some very good advice for Hanks and other Hollywood elites. Shut your pie whole and act. That is what you do and that is what you know. When you start pontificating on other subjects you expose yourself as the shallow morons you are.

  • MrPaddy

We are screwed as country based on this survey. It’s mostly liberals which is the American cancer

  • tiredofbias

I used to enjoy reading RD. Nice, conservative stories with family focus. But I now find that I am deluged with stories of homosexuals, or other progressive ideals that are daily shoved down our throats from all different directions.
I received a copy of RD in the mail yesterday, and today, at minimum, 3 of the most trusted Americans on the list are being shown to have deliberately lied to our country for their own personal gain, and at the cost of 4 lives and possibly countless reputations.
I believe, as probably 99% of our grandparents that marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I have never said a cross word to anyone in the gay community. I have no issue with gay people. I simply don’t agree with what they do. But people like me are smeared and ridiculed by those who are popular with the direction of our country.
Possibly, if you were to do a story on how Christian’s are persecuted In this country without cause by those of whom you write I would regain some trust in your publication. But as it stands, I can get this same biased view of the country I love from about 10 other people on your list from the media. Count on 1 less subscription to your magazine.

Love? Why? He is a decent actor. Is that why you love him? What do you mean by “love”? Do you agree with his outlook on life? Do you agree with his politics (which, by the way, are socialist)? I really want to know what it is that you “love” about this actor who you do not know personally and will never even meet.

RD compiled a list of 200 “headline makers and opinion makers” and had 1000 people rank them for trustworthiness. It also “paired up movie stars, game show hosts, technologists” and asked “which celeb do you trust more?”

This has got to be the stupidest, most worthless poll ever. All it tells us is that Americans are indeed clueless drones, something we’ve long suspected. Pitiful.

This survey wouldn’t be a bunch of hooey would it? I know when I think of americans I most trust
Brian K. Kobilka name always comes up at least 14th. Right behind Clint Eastwood and right before Loyd Shapely. There are names on this list that not one person in a hundred have ever even heard of. Period.

  • rick

This list is absolutely pathetic but understandable given the apathetic state of our society.

  • http://www.facebook.com/larry.boynton Larry Boynton

I think I saw 4 or 5 people on the whole list I would trust. Most of the Hollywood and Politicians would rob me blind for 5 minutes publicity. Thomas and Scalia are the only judges I’d trust. No conservative politicians on the list. This was not worth the time I spend on it.

    • Laura in Maryland

I’m with ya most of the way, but Judge Judy is the only judge I’d trust. PIcture her on Kelo: Was it yours to take? NO! Then why did you take it?

  • Laura in Maryland

In which libtard commune was this “survey” taken?

Dr Oz? With all the email spam sent out?

  • Ilpalazzo

Ok, this list is so bogus. Research poll my arse. These are all the people currently on TV in random order, with a couple unknown professors thrown in. And 1,000 people polled? Were they all couch potatoes? I notice a lot of the afternoon TV time slot listed on here too.

Yes, this is a faux poll. It was taken at a Hollywood SAG union meeting in LA. That is why the responses are so detached from reality and, not surprisingly, contain the name of only one Republican. Tom Hanks? Not even in the top 1000000.

  • proud

Don’t tell me, let me guess….The poll was conducted by calling the “public” on their free Obama phones?

  • proud

Religion is the oldest con there is….God did not create man….Look at history….Man has always created a “GOD” to explain away the unknown.. Giant clap of thunder?, man comes up with Thor and his hammer, big storm at sea? must be Zues yada, yada

Absurd poll. 12% were conservative. 2-3 very conservative. The other 88% Liberal. At least 15 radical, leftist activists… (Nom Chompski… you have got to be kidding. So in a country of 300+ million, they poll 1000 people and call it “the 100 most trusted people in America”?

    it should be called …….

“The 100 most trusted people in America according to 0.000333% of the population”

no wonder Reader Digest filed for bankruptcy

WHO IN THE HELL TOOK THIS “SURVEY”? AND WHO IN THE HELL TOOK THIS CRAP SERIOUSLY? and Who, in their right mind, would choose movie stars, aka professionals who convincingly pretend to be “some one else”, as someone they would trust when the POPULACE only sees the “PRETEND” personality?

  • Native

This list is absolutely laughable. Doctors, absolutely, Nobel Prize winners, absolutely, ministers/pastors, absolutely. Hollywood elitists, are you serious? They live in a make-believe fantasy world. And Michelle Obama…………..oh please!!!!!!!!!!

  • happyscrapper

Are you sure they didn’t ask who was the LEAST trusted? I saw only about 10 people on there out of 100 I would trust as far as I could throw them

  • happyscrapper

Oh, I get it. The poll was taken down at the OWS “gathering” of morons, druggies and rapists. Nice job, RD. Now, go back to the black hole of failed companies and leave us alone. Your political bias has been outed and you are done.

  • happyscrapper

I have just read through about 150 comments. I have taken a poll. 100% of the commentors disapprove of this bogus list. EVERYONE sees it for the biased piece of junk it is. What the crap is RD thinking? Final nail in their coffin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steven.carter.980967 Steven K Carter

Reader’s Digest idea of a most trusted criteria had to be based on some really strange parameters. I can think of four or five singers I trust more than 90% of the people on this list. First, eliminate the broadcasters, then the politicians and then the corporate moguls and replace them with your average people off the street. Then you might have a list of some trustworthy people.

This pole is about as legit as the Obama speeches, the evening news, the United Nations and the Nobel Peace Prize. Reader’s Digest and Time used to be respectable mags, now their just regurgitated liberal rags. Disgusting!!!! All the pollsters should take a one time truthful shot at a legitimate poll with serious meaningful questions; taken from all across the U.S. not just east and west coasters, asking how middle- class Americans feel about the ethics of the media filter/twisting/reporting the news, and the manipulative questions used for the taking of their stupid/nobodyreallycares polls.

Most of these people cannot be trusted to tie their own shoes. The actors are mostly high school drop outs. This is the crowd of people who say progressive totalitarianism is good for you and individuality is bad. Personal Responsibility is bad and dependency on tax slaves is good. These people say charity is bad unless the government forces you to do it at the end of a gun. Most of these people would send me to the ovens in a heartbeat if someone told them it would help progressive totalitarianism.

    • gruntledman

Thanks for taking time away from rightwing radio or Faux News to spew your thoughts on this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sherri.jacksonleinweber Sherri Jackson Leinweber

This story is about a poll taken about the 100 most trusted, and it has turned into peoples political agenda’s. 1st off, I just can’t see people naming CEO’s of big corps or companies as being most trusted, or some justice people for that matter. I don’t believe this poll was fair. In saying that, now I will say how I feel about all these things said. I am a Christian, in saying that I mean, I believe in God and Jesus, and the bible. I do not belong to any organized religions (Catholic, Baptist etc.) I do however feel that I have every right to say Merry Christmas. Why should atheists be able to take away rights from Christians, how does a nativity scene display hurt an atheist in anyway. If you do not believe in something, then it should have no affect on you. Why the fear? I don’t believe in aliens or little martians, and if someone displays aliens, I know it does not affect me in anyway. What makes an atheists rights any more important than my rights. How does wanting the ten commandments in school hurt anyone. Even if you are an atheist, are they not good rules to live by and teach our children. Think what this world would really be like if NO ONE believed in God, and the consequences of what happens to them after they die. It would be pure chaos and mayhem.

    • gruntledman

Is anybody stopping you or your local churches from placing nativity scenes on private property?

  • Palamas

So, what can we learn from this list?

    1) Most Americans will believe anything they see on television.
    2) Most Americans will believe anything they see in movies.
    3) Most Americans will trust celebrities for no other reason than because they are famous.
    4) Most Americans trust few politicians, but will trust anyone who can convincingly say things other people put in their mouths.
    5) Most Americans are liberals.
    6) This survey is utter nonsense.

  • njmom

RD proves it is full of chit with this poll.

  • ThelmaTaormina

It just goes to show that people still have their heads in the sand. Most of the people at the top of the list are lying to them and they do not even see it!

  • Sara Stewart

Where did they find the people who did this survey? I could go out and interview 1000 random people and I would bet that I could not get 10 who would know who Robert J Lefkowitz, Lloyd Shapley and Noam Chomsky are. And they made 11, 15 and 20th in this list.

There is not one person on this list that I would “trust”. I like Dr. Oz and would believe most of what he says. But, he will admit that he doesn’t know everything.

I would not TRUST this survey results in any way.

  • Keninmo

I know when I have a life-changing question that requires deep thought and intellect, I always turn to Hollywood to give me the answers! Apparently I’m not alone since 7 of the top 10 are Hollyidiots. Who did they survey, People Magazine subscribers?

Michelle Obama, the most Un-American first lady ever, a person that has let a terrorist baby sit for her, a person that, according to her, was never proud to be American until her husband was elected president, a person that takes a million dollar vacation (on our dime) every other week and buys $8000.00 blouses (also on our dime) every day, is number 19?

    Are you freakin kidding me?!

I can’t believe how many dumb Americans there are!

  • HealthyAmerican

What thousand Americans were polled for this? Seriously, Tom Hanks, Maya Angelou and Bill Gates? Can we see the polling internals? Are you sure the question wasn’t simply “which of the following names do you recognize?”

OK, with Lefkowitz at number eleven I’m beginning to smell something seriously fraudulent about this poll…no way you could take a random sampling of a thousand people and have him notch in at number eleven.

    Tom Hanks? Really? Sad commentary.

  • Rick

Obama!? Clinton!? Whoopi!? I would never put the word trust in any description of these and many others on your list. The majority of this list is a virtual cornucopia of wealthy liberal, anti-gun, religion-bashing, power/publicity hungry individuals who know as much about me and my common American brethren as I do about brain surgery. It’s hard to believe that 1000 people would even know some of the obscure people on this list such as those in the medical and research fields. I would guess that out of a thousand “common Americans” maybe one or two may have even heard of these people which makes your poll highly suspect. Next time try to poll 1000 people who are not liberal college professors (a true oxy-moron), actors guild members or on MoveOn.orgs membership roster. This is why I have not and will not renew my subscription to your ever more left-leaning publication.

Is it just me or is it odd that CEO’s are on this list? It’s just not really the first thing to come to my mind when I think of trustworthy. Maybe I’m wrong but I think that Sandra Bullock being trusted over Noam Chomsky is a good indicator as to who the audience polled for this is.

    • OutinOZ

My thoughts exactly John, I once trusted this rag..Not any more….Hey Marketing guys at RD, you may want to start paying attention to your negatives.

I just need to see the methodology of a “survey” where people happened to randomly select little known scientists such as Lefowitz. This makes no sense–the average American can barely name their own governor let alone a little known Nobel Prize winning chemist.

  • Pat Berb

WOW Yanks are dumbed down so much they can only think “celebrity, celebrity”. Where are the choices in science, medical researchers, inventors, engineers, military leaders, trusted law enforcement, (might be some), respected community leaders, ethical business people, (might be some), philanthropists, (lots of these)? But ACTORS? WTF!!! If US goes down the tubes, this poll shows why.

  • hubby bear

Six of the top ten listed are in a profession whose purpose is to MAKE BELIEVE? Where was this poll taken, Universal Studios?
Either your sampling is poor, or this country needs to take a serious look at its priorities (I suspect both).

Interesting sampling: clearly most respondents are daytime TV junkies; and how can anyone say Krugman and Dowd are even minimally trustworthy. Silly poll and sillier respondents.

  • Loy

Danny, it’s possible the clergy are untrustworthy because they’re running a money dump (tithing), distracting us from the here & now with a redirect to a fantasy of eternal damnation, undermining us by declaring us “sinners”, & lying to us about needing their brand of “salvation”, when we need to be allowed to think for ourselves instead of trying to fit into ready-to-wear, hand-me-down Biblical B. S.

  • Cashish

I can’t wait to leave this country of retards and morons. The top picks included 100% illuminati and zionists and even Bill Gates at number 7, a man who puts more money into genocide campaigns than anyone else on the planet. What is wrong with Americans? Please remember that each of these “100 most trusted” people are fabulously wealthy. Do the readers of this article fully realize that this list of 100 “most trusted” are all multi-millionaires — many times over? What do the average working man and woman who are buried in debt and struggling to make a living really have in common with any of these glib-tongued, corrupt politicians and/or hi-rolling Hollywood celebrity types found in this list? Ha! Not much, to be sure. Polling for this list of “100 most trusted” people is based, obviously, on RD’s political viewpoint and the habitual use of television by most Americans. Only one non-rich, non-famous American in about 400,000 actually knows any of these “most trusted 100″ people. The rest of us “know” them ONLY from their television persona. That’s it, and this so-called “most trusted 100″ spend an enormous amount of money (more than most working Americans make in a life time) polishing and protecting their public image. For about 98% of the American people, “trust” in these 100 people is based entirely on shiny, glittery electronic images which are carefully contrived and projected onto home-based televisions, with the intent of making this “most trusted 100″ appear worthy, great and wise. With few exceptions, nothing could be further from the truth! These “most trusted 100″ are very good at selling themselves and/or their line of products — off of which they reap vast monetary gains. Profiting financially from favorable media appearances is their primary concern, if they want to remind in the public eye. And they know it! Never doubt that. Gaining the American people’s “trust” is vital to that goal. You’re politically and financially naive if you think otherwise. Yet, our country today is in a dreadful, ongoing financial and cultural crisis because, in general, the TV-drugged and media-brainwashed American citizen has trusted the wisdom, greatness and leadership of very rich, “celebrity” politicians from Washington DC, and (to a disturbing extent) wealthy actors and entertainers from Hollywood — many of whom are, not surprisingly, in this list of the “most trusted 100″. In truth, celebrity multi-millionaires from Washington DC and Hollywood are the very last persons on Earth the American working man and woman should be trusting with the future of their nation; its values, its culture, its economy and its government. When are the American people going to stop being fooled by the insidious media hype which whitewashes and promotes the special interests of a few fabulously wealthy politicians, Hollywood actors, movie stars and entertainers? Calling this list of 100 people the “most trusted” in America is, with only a couple of exceptions, ludicrous and disgraceful. As most other comments in here also suggest.

I find Anne Curry to be more trustworthy than anyone else on the Today show. It is terrible what happened to her and is reflective of what happens in many companies across America. Seems odd to me that after what happened the votes would go this way…doesn’t seem accurate..

Tom Hanks “TOPS THE LIST?” Wow! Another Anti-American leads the “way” for us to follow… A “true blue” communist that has been given a “stellar” approval for his “representation” of his generation.

I was born in 1950 and he doesn’t represent 90 % of my values. He and his bosom buddy, STeven Spielberg run around doing their best to wipe out generations of unborn thru “planned parenthood” that by the way has NOTHING TO DO with preparing parents for childbirth but does have “Plans” to distribute genicide to millions of babies yet “unborn” in the womb.

George Lucas among others, are included in this elusive club that promotes the “numbing” of America. THEY all support Nobama and could care less about the “truth” of our existence. Which is found in the statement, “The only road to heaven exists in the reality of God’s creation.”

These guys DO NOT BELONG ON ANY TRUST LIST IN MY LIFE… MORE LIKE my “DISTRUST LIST!”

    RD….shame on you!

I wouldn’t trust most of the people on the list to give me a wake-up call in the morning. This is more a popularity contest than anything else. And Jimmy Carter at 24? A bunch of actors and directors who only speak what other people write for them—no, this listing is bogus. Are these voters the same people who were asked by a Townhall reporter who Ben Ghazi was and had blank looks? Most of them didn’t even know who the present and former Vice Presidents are. All they know are actors and rappers. They wouldn’t know a hard news story if it bit them in the rear.

Tom Hanks ?!? I can’t imagine why he makes the top of this list unless he has a movie/movies coming out this year and his studio paid big bucks to remind us of him by promoting him in this bogus list.

“RD compiled a list of over 200 American opinion shapers & headline makers from 15 highly influential professions & presented it to (1009)U.S. adults.” ….”The real winners aren’t here. We removed the three highest scorers (your own doctor 77%, your own spiritual adviser(71%) & your own child’s current teacher (66%).

The RD survey brought me laughter and tears…yes, the results are both humerous and distrurbing.
I laughed because, predictably the biased source of the List represents right & left coast picks of “opinion shapers & headline makers,”mainly movie & TV personalities, liberal journalists & university professors & a few sports figures. While many of those people are entertaining, some of admirable character & talent, their achievments have not and do not make America the great country that it is.

And exactly who were those 1009 people surveyed and where do they live? I’d guess that they aren’t informed adults living in America’s heartland.

Given this survey and its results I suspect that our next president will be a popular actor, a late-night comedian or maybe even a cool dude who wins on “Dancing with the Stars.”
